Yamaha 701 in X2???

A buddy of mine wants to do a 701 (stroker) in his X2 (that would be bad ass). I don't have much experience with X2's, what problems will he encounter? Wants to use a yamaha drive train as well, but I think it will be easier to use the stock one with matching couplers (one w/ a kawi thread for the midshaft the other with a yamaha thread for the crank). What do you guys think?

Its been done in Japan, I had the same idea a while back. Conversion would be a pain for sure, but not impossible.

i wouldnt think that hard. cut a stock 650 plate to mount on the yama motor
petes ski has a super jet chamber. so exhaust is covered. just where to mount the e-box

It'll probably take making an adapter plate to mount the 701 to the x2 bed plate in the proper position. It shouldn't be that hard to make one. There should be pics of the 550/650/750 conversion plates around to use as a reference. You should also be able to use a superjet bpipe without too much problem.

The kawi 750 motor has the stroke and porting to make good power without spending a ton of money though. Kawi motors never had problems making a lot of power. Finding a way to run a yamaha pump would probably give you a better increase than switching to a yamaha motor.

what makes me curious is this.....

the pump in an x2 and the pump in a 750/800 is VERY similar. Basically it's the same pump with the stator vanes relocated. There are probably other small differences like for mounting. I'm wondering what it would take to either mount the 750/800 pump (using the new pump insert would make the pump work a lot better). Or.... finding a way to modify the pump insert to fit the x2/650 pump. I'm wondering if the 750/800 pump could be mounted by using a custom driveshaft. Oh well.. I don't run Kawis anymore but I thought about trying to get a 750/800 pump into my old 650sx. I ended up getting a blueprinted and extrude honed pump that hooked up very well so the idea wasn't as interesting to me.

The insert I'm talking about is the one made to make the Kawi 750/800 pump work more like a Magnum. Then you would have some real hookup.

Perhaps you could talk to Steve (Watercraft factory). He makes a complete bedplate assembly that gets glassed into his hulls. You could put this into the X2.

Same here, kawi engines make great power, no need to reinvent the wheel. Stick a 750 in there, port it, pipe, head, and run with it. X-2's push a ton of water so they'll never be speed demons.

actually, this is what we plan to do with the spare x2 hull that i have..... some day.

I have been thinking about doing this in my SXI Pro.

Not cause I think Kawi motos suck. Just because it would mean only carrying one set of spare parts when I head across the state.

Then, if the wife aint riding that weekend.....I have all the spare parts I need.....in the other hull.

just buy a square. or - stop working on that bus for a month, you'd be able to buy a roundie.

Dude, I am gonna smack you. You know I love that old Kawi.

Plus, if I get a square I would be starting from scratch. I have that Kawi dialed in + sorted. Its a tank and can still take alot more abuse. But, the motor is getting tiiiiiireed!6 years in salt water. sunk probably 10 times. Still has 160 on both holes.

BTW- If I had not bought the bus I probably could have bought three roundies by now.

People who dive old VW's daily are dumb, I'm one of them. I work on that thing every damned weekend just to keep it running for another week.
