Yamaha superjet solenoid clicking

So my 2001 Yamaha superjet is currently not running. Everyime I hit the start but it’s just makes a click noise I tried a fresh battery and the same thing. So I bought a new solenoid still the same clicking sound so what is next? I’m thinking it could be the cable that goes to the starter from the solenoid or the starter and ideas what’s wrong?

take a voltmeter and touch the positive terminal to the red cable that connects to the starter and put the negative on the negative terminal of your battery. Hit the start button. If the starter is getting 12v when you hit the button, then its your starter. If its not getting 12v, then the problem is somewhere else

Watch out for new defective non OE Yamaha starter Solenoids. I had bought 2 from Atlantic jet sports to have on the Shelf.. When my ski finally broke down, no start, just click... I figured I had it handled, installed a new solenoid I mentioned above, put the ski back together only to find it still just clicked... So I installed the second one and same no start just click.. So I took a known working one out of my other ski and got my ski going, and returned the junk..

Here is what a new Yamaha looks like, they aren’t cheap, I paid over $85 new..

I looked on Amazon real quickly and I didn’t see any new OE solenoids.. just a bunch of after markets as low as $7 :(

Yeah then I probably ordered one that’s not Oem I only paid $20 for it so should I buy a new oem one?

I'd say yes, absolutely. Don't mess with Chinese garbage parts on Amazon for anything watercraft, especially when it's electrical. That's most likely your issue. Amazon should issue you a refund and pay for the return shipping for the headaches they caused. Find an OEM Yamaha one and you'll probably be back up and running.

We could assume the low current wiring to your solenoid is working since it’s able to provide an audible click noise when it operates the solenoid ...can you test the high current side?

High current side, ( Large red battery cable from your battery is connected to one side of the solenoid and the other large red cable on the solenoid goes to your starter...

When you hit the start button, the high current contractor in the solenoid should bridge the two large cables contractors and allow 12v to pass down to your starter.

Do you have access to a test light or a volt meter to perform the test johmarchetta34 mentioned above ?

Good deal on finding the issue. Your original OE solenoid may be good, if not replce w an OE one.
Simple solenoid test:
Open ebox, set multimeter to resistance. Disconnect wire to starter. Put meter across the two main terminals (one that goes to batt and other going to starter), make sure you good connection on multimeter leads. Press and hold start button and read resistance across those two terminals. Should be .2 ohms or less.
Aftermarket solenoids are junk & won't last long.

The new style square solenoid fit in the same spot also, you just need two mm bolts as it uses bolts instead of nuts

I know it's common to ground the starter at the starter mounting bolt, but I ground mine to a bolt on the flywheel cover. Cable is less than a foot and easy to replace.
