What ever happened to doing a great job just because it was the right thing to do and so you wouldn't ever have to worry about it coming back, that concept seems to be totally foreign here.I have found that if I am happy with the finished product then the customer is happy with it as well,if I have a concern I fix it because if I don't time has proven it will be back at which point you get to fix it for free.

I had Nick mod my hood for me last summer while building my SN. I just finished and got it in the water this year. Ive got approx/ 3 hours of riding and 2 subs on the boat. This is the results=

I guess liquid nails and a drop ceiling tile dont work so good for a hood liner mod.:nutkick:

Remember kiddies, if you want something done right do it yourself.

just for the record i have seen this mod done exactly like this on at least a half a dozen hoods and it works awesome.nick did scotts silver square hood like 4 or 5 years ago and its still going strong.the square nose is practiclly unrideable in the surf without it.the hood in stock form lets in tons of water.

bombthreat,if you are so unhappy then why dont you want your money back? im not bashing but just like you have the right to post neg feedback i think we deserve to know why you didnt give nick the opurtunity to make it right somehow.

kennay, obiously you enjoy sour apples because from what i can see in the pms nick apologised a couple times.

Let's be honest with each other here... Who here has contacted Yamaha because they cracked their stock hull, hood, or got water in the foam? I don't know anyone that has. Yet you'll bash someone you may know personally because they screwed up a job that they made chump change on after materials and time. The guy made a huge thread on how to do this yourself. What more do you want?

Seriously, no one is perfect. If you crack a $5k carbon hull or blow a $3k motor on the first couple rides, take it back. If you crack something like this...slap some glass and resin on it when you get home and ride tommorrow. Problem solved!

jfw432- If i pop of 3k motor or crack a 5k hull within the first few rides and it clearly didnt have anything to do with my riding or work, then damn right I would be calling the people who made it to make it right. Im sorry but I dont have the same disposable income then you seem to have... On the other hand in this particular instance the person I had do this work was not a professional at his work an I should have known better then just do this myself. I dont want this money or "help" because Im not going to take his forgiveness. This is the absolutely worst work ive ever seen on a ski and I actually paid for it and waited months. I feel like a complete moron.

Im not looking to get anything out of this, to tell you the truth Im sick and tired of companies/people offering services and having very poor customer service and quality of work for the the money. Im not going to get into details because it doesnt do any good on here. Everyone knows everyone so nobody does anything wrong. If for some ungodly reason there is a mistake in build quality/craftsmanship it wasnt the builders fault by any means... Or you gotta go through about 50 hoops and the ringer before its realized.

In response to Yamaslut, Butti, and JFW

1.) Thank you for bringing my name into this. Until now, the only people who knew about our problem were the people who had actually seen the hood in person. I am glad you brought me up however, because I should have made this post long ago. Maybe if I had, Bombthreat wouldn't be in this situation.

And you most certainly did NOT prime and paint my hood. You painted it with a mixture of flat spray paint colors for "Protecting it during shipping" as you called it. I call it making me spend 2 hours of my life making sure I had every last speck of it sanded off before I could take it by the body shop. Thank you.

2.) Nick kept repeatedly apologizing and that was it.... update after update... "It's being sent out tomorrow, I'm sorry, it's being sent out tomorrow, I'm sorry," over and over. I felt BIG TIME like I was being taken advantage of. Nick knew before I sent him anything that I needed it back pronto because of my appointment at the body shop where the ski was being painted. WEEKS of these "I'm sorry, it's being sent out tomorrow, soon, in 20 minutes," or whatever was getting really old. the rest of my build was done, and I was just sitting there waiting on Nick to please for the love of god deliver my hood.

If I sold you a service, and then never deliver, will it be ok if I keep saying sorry? I spent a lot of time and money on my build, and for Nick to know I was close to the end, and then just not do a damn thing but keep saying sorry.... yeah, it rubbed me the wrong way. Even when my head was about to explode, I still managed to stay composed enough to send him a message without cursing or telling him what a POS he was for doing this.

He then responds with I was just about to refund you... yeah right. I didn't want a refund at that point. For all I knew, the hood I was getting would make up for the wait time on it's own. Boy was I wrong. I asked for a refund later after I had actually seen the hood, and was promptly told the refund didn't apply anymore.

And yes, I love sour apples. I'd take a granny smith over the regular red anyday.

3.) Jfw... oh boy. When you speak along the lines of what did you expect for the money... Well, I personally was expecting something that wasn't falling apart before I even put my ski in the water. Also, it's not like I called him and made an offer. I called him in response to his post about him being out of work and needing money and asked him what he would charge me to do his mod to my hood. We then talked about what I, keyword being I wanted done. The inside was to be reinforced, and the fiberglass liner was to be fiber glassed in. HIS way of doing it was not only a poor concept of how to install a hood liner and make the sn hood stronger, it's was poor craftsmanship as well. Trust me, I wish I had known what I was getting before I thought of even calling him. Gluing a piece of shower liner into a hood with liquid nails isn't exactly my idea of a good idea. Based on his reputation and popularity, I would have never expected that. I even asked a good friend of mine what he thought about Nick before this, and I got nothing but a clear go ahead... don't worry about it. He's a good dude. Ever since this, my buddy won't stop apologizing.

All Nick did in exchange for the roughly 200 dollars I have tied up in this mess of a hood was give me something that was WAY worse than what I started with. I spent a LONG time getting all the mess he made out. Not only that, but to get all the crap he left in there out, it cause the brand new paint job to spider crack all over because it was so damn flimsy I couldn't even work on it. Then lets not mention the 50-60 bucks in materials I spent doing the hood like it should have been done the first time.

I am going to post my pictures in the next post... I'd imagine I am about to start running out of characters.

And for clarification, I didn't post this expecting anything out of Nick. I just want to clear my name since it was brought up, and warn others about what they may be getting themselves into.

And I might add before I go any further, that Nick himself said even way back when something to the tune of "I don't :):):):)ing care anymore... bash me online talk about me to your dog, whatever."

I hope this is what you were wanting Nick. A simple I'm sorry and a refund or either just doing what I paid you to do would have been awesome. You gave me the sob story about how it was your first time running a business and not knowing how to deal with all this at a time means relatively nothing considering how well into my waiting, I called you asking for an update on TWO seperate occasions when you answered the phone while hanging out at the beach ON A WEEKDAY when he was supposed to be so short on time with so much going on.

Cliffs of what we agreed upon

Wanted:

-Crack fixed on the side of the hood
-Inside reinforced
-Liner glassed in

What I got:

-Painted with spray paint (I didn't even want ANY paint added)
-Crack not fixed apparently, it came right through the new paint
-No reinforcement (He didn't even take the old liner out.)
-Hood liner made of the thinnest shower liner made of chop on the planet
-Glued in with Liquid nails
-Sloppy liquid nails painted over with LATEX PAINT. Yes, latex paint.
-enormous gaping holes cut in the back on the hood to be covered over with some stainless louvers that wouldn't supply my lungs with enough oxygen because the slits were so small and close together, much less an engine

And so, without further adieu, I present the members of x-h20 with what I received and apparently should have been thrilled about for the low price of only 200+ dollars and a lot of my time (150 + shipping each way + the 20 dollar tip and thank you note attatched.)

Next ones are after the maiden voyage in Lake Martin, AL. I didn't take any pics of the cracks from before it hit the water. You could hardly see them, but it was indeed cracked. I guess using the hood made it worse.

And please excuse the poor looking work I did adding the hoses and the glassed in piece so the drypipe would clear. I had to do it really quick one night. I wonder why I was in a rush :eek:mfg:

A month later, I rode it in the surf for the first time with the hood mod... awesome. It was dumping saltwater all into the carbs and engine compartment.

Got air? And mysteriously, it sure didn't smell like epoxy when I was grinding it out. Pretty sure it was poly. Let's not forget to mention that the resin was about 1/4"-3/8" thick... yes I had to grind all that crap out along with the liquid nails and latex paint. It took me a very long time to get back down to decent material so I could do it right.
