What's up? I haven't been around the forums in a long long time. I sold my last two skis last year. The couch because... well, it's a couch and I needed the money since I was laid off from work last winter. Then when I got my job back I ended up selling my sweeeeeeet RN SJ (dialed in perfect for me) since I never had off on weekends due to my job which meant nobody local to ride with. I ended up buying a boat with the money since I get time to go out a lot at night.

I plan on buying a Yam dual sport bike this year and I also want to add a ski back to the stable, but the budget for a ski is going to be tight. I can't afford an SJ the way I'd want it, plus I think it would be hard to settle for another SJ when mine was exactly how I wanted it. Which leaves me with two choices as I see it:

An FX-1

or

A Waveblaster 1

I owned a WB 1 before and loved it, but I really miss riding my SJ. But would I be happy with an FX-1? I've never ridden one. I'd probably have between $1500 and $2000 to drop.

Which would you guys choose and why?

Yo Greg, long time no see!
My vote is WB1 since you are coming from the GPR, WB1 and SJ platforms... It will be more natural, IMO.

Is that the thing you fly now in your avatar?

Hey Greg!

I vote SN if you want a standup and dont want to drop RN $$$$. Atleast spend sometime on an FX. They have there own learning curve if there are waves. I didnt enjoy my FX in the surf and ended up getting selling it for that reason.

What bike are you getting WRR? I've got a plated bike too, and have been dying to get out and ride the state parks.

Sweet man! Yeah, I plan on gettin a WRR. We'll have to ride. What do you have?

I don't think I could do a SN. I had one years ago and never liked it. It even had a 701 in it. I don't know what it was about it.

Ok, just remember the FX1 stock pump is a tiny POS. I personally would not buy one unless it was getting a 140/144 pump transplant.

I have a street legal honda 230 and have been debating getting a WRR for awhile now. Thats a kickass bike with a few mods!

a pump swap is a must, although I did rock a stock pump for a full season and STILL had a good time riding :bump:...it will still have decent grunt with a prop, but you just have to hit the waves with more speed

I looked at those 230's when was shopping for my first bike...the thing I didnt like about them was the TINY front forks..didnt look like they woudl be stout enough...

bought a DRZ instread, rode it for about 6 months then went to the street legal KTM 450 and never looked back

If I lived in FL I would DEF have a KTM. In NJ plating a "dirt" bike is a massive PIA (if not impossible) if the bike does not come with a 50 state legal title. NJ maintains there own DMV approved list that shaves 90% of all bikes off. The ONLY legal ridespots are stateparks and WMA's, and you MUST be plated and DMV inspected, as the park rangers will stop you and inspect. EVEN YOUR TIRES MUST BE DOT APPROVED...If you have the coin for the full DOT legal conversion, a 450EXC can be plated with all the correct DOT approved mods (blinkers, lights, speedo, ect ect.), but that is not even close to cheap. Besides the 450EXC, the WRR is the next most dirt worthy DS bike out there for us in the communist state. The CRF 230 is a perfect first learner bike, and I scored a killer CL deal on one with 100miles on it. By no means should it be jumped, but it gets 80-105MPG consistantly, making it the cheapest toy I have to operate.

the KTM comes with an MC title right from the factory........state by state will deterimine lights, blinkers etc etc...sounds like you have to have it all...

florida requires lights and tailights......hand signals for blinkers, and the only time they have checked my tires was when I took my test got the endorsement...

the exc will come with headlight, tailight (but you need a brake light switch banjo bolt switch)

at the moment my KTM DOES have street legal tires..I bought the most aggressive street legal knobbies I could find...they are awesome on hard pack but SUCK in the sand

in st aug noone ever gives them a 2nd look...I took it to west palm last year and got pulled over in less than 5 minutes for my "vertically mounted" license plate (which was in the factory supplied location..)
