Freestyle Your favorite carbs and why?

I'm new to carbs, jetting, pop off etc... But trying to learn as much as possible.

What carbs do you guys like to work with, on, own, run, favorite whatever blablabla. On a 900cc ish flatwater motor. PFP, TL.

Novi's, Blackjacks, Full Specs, Xmetal's and or anything I left out.

Thanks in advance for putting up with my silly carb questions.

i saw a carb chart somewhere on the web that listed the best to the worst carbs out there and why. the best were rated for ease of tuning and that was due to signal strength. there were a few brands that werent on there but novi was at the top of the heap. the best signal strength means they are kind of self tuning. you can have a jet in there thats close enough to run right. carbs with a bad signal have to be jetted dead nuts on or it runs like crap. you still have to take the carbs off 100 times to get it right,no matter what carbs you run. tuning is everything. you can have all the best parts that create big power, but it'll run like crap until its tuned right. i run novi 48s or full spec 48 & 49s usually, but in the past i have used the rest.

Thanks Mark, that's some good info there. Had no clue on signal at all. It's crazy how much goes into really getting your :):):):) tuned in right. Mine is WAY off right now, but I'll get it set up much better for the next ride. Standing around on the shore is not my gig at all...

Nobody yet, just trying to plan ahead. I'm semi strapped on big spends this season, need to put back some into my business first. Currently running a ported 781, but no clue who did the cyl porting. Thoughts?

I would highly recommend talking with a few shops. You can throw any set of A/M carbs on there but to get it to run right you will need to have your prop/pump setup for your motor (porting included). I played guessing games for a year and it's not worth the headache. Novi, Blackjack, and Full Spec seem to be the most popular A/M carbs.

A 900 should be able to pull enough air for all available carbs on the market. If you want to run clean at part throttle then they will need to be on the small side. Novi has started leaving the venturi ring in place on some of their 48s so those will be most adaptable and easiest to tune. True bore carbs need to be set much more rich at part throttle but tend to hit hardest when everything is correct. They just consume more fuel when putting around and are more sensitive to atmospheric conditions.

I assume you mean taper bore?

Whatever carbs your builder recomends and can help you tune, or whatever you or your friend who is tuning is familiar with :) How that for a PC answer.

best answer there is, you have have the "best #insert your brand here#" carb, but if its not tuned correctly it wont perform

all the brands mentioned here are quality carbs and will function if tunned correctly

myself and a number of local riders have been using the ATP 48MM annular discharge freestyle carbs for the last couple of year and love them

I live and die by BlackJacks for a couple of reasons-once dialed in-they are DONE!!!

Getting them dialed in is as easy as tell Art EVERYTHING about your setup-he sends them to you ready to go and you are DONE!!!
