From memory, I used a 2mm tip. The larger tip helps allow u to flow up or down with ur spray versus a small tip and ur locked in on the amount u can spray. I'm pretty sure all I had was white gel coat from a previous ski and bought dye to work this project. I did buy the Duratec online...
From personal experience, I bought the el cheapo gun @ harbor freight and sprayed my sanded/prepped SJ bottom deck with US composites gel coat cut 50:50 with Duratec clear and dyed it black. Worked like a charm. Nothing wrong with brushing or rolling either. It should self-level to an extent...
Take 2 weeks off work and plot a course for a new ride spot every 5-600 miles and make a vaca of it. Lots of cool peeps along the way to "put u up" @ every stop I bet. Kinda like Easy Rider for skis.
Wow!!! Nice work and great innovative thinking. I Wonder what is the weight savings, over OEM parts.
Would u be willing to share the specs for others to use your designs?
If u want to paint appliance paint is pretty durable and reasonable. I've put that on a few SN hills that lasted well. Single stage HOK paint has been my best bang for the buck though.
Engine enamel works but it doesn't have as high of a build that gel coat gives. I shot mine out of a HVLP gun cut 50/50 with Duratec clear. Black gel coat. No orange peel never sanded.
Spraying it's not bad if u cut it with Duratec clear 50/50. I did my old SJ with it and worked fine. Sanded it down with 120/180/220 and sprayed it twice. Not showroom but still smooth and its durable.
I took the day off work to spread mulch (Pinestraw in the south). We have a decent size property that needs about 500 bales to cover all the beds. Usually takes me 3 days or so to get it all out...the weather has been perfect all week. 70*+, blue skies and breezy. Not today.
