Well I will try to figure out a way to mount a fire extinguisher to the tank. I've got a few ideas that I'll try modeling, need to see if I can find one of these at a local store. If I can make it work, the bracket that I'm thinking about making would probably cost around $5-10 each to have...
Not a bad idea, what is the most common, smallest fire extinguisher being used? I could make a folded weld-on mount for the front of the tank since I'm not sticking the battery out there...
Okay here is the other concept. This one should be around 3.25 gallons and has significantly more clearance. Over 1.125" additional space between the pipe, in addition to being 1 inch shorter and 1/2" more clearance on the right side by the exhaust. Not as much room for hooks, but you would be...
I've actually already made a concept with the battery turned sideways and the fittings in the middle of the tank. I'll post it up tonight and see if you guys like it better...
Sorry about the delay guys, I'm still tweaking the design a bit.
This is as it is right now compared to the 5gal tank. The one to the right would be about 3.5 gallons. I think I could make a few more changes to get it a bit shorter if needed. I'm limited on top space; trying to keep the cap...
Probably here in the next week, I'm waiting on a new cap to show up and some quotes back from a few anodizers. I just about have everything ready to go.
Unfortunately the bare aluminum will tarnish in salt water for sure, but since it is 5052, it will hold up much better than the cast aluminum used in pumps, pipes, or even parts made from 6061.
The welds would probably be a slightly different color, but since I use 5356 filler it should be pretty close. 4043 filler is the stuff that will look significantly different. I would probably just offer clear and black intially as I would have to have a dye tank for each color. It would look...
I've had several requests for a smaller capacity tank, I could just shorten it a 3 gallon capacity to keep as many of the parts the same as possible. The problem is it wouldn't be much cheaper, as the cost of the different parts would offset the small material/weld savings. If that would be okay...
Quick question for you guys, would anodizing the tanks be a big selling point for you salt water riders? I'd like to start but it's decent investment for a quality setup...
I don't have any for sale right now, although I do plan on making some more in Sept-Oct if there is any demand for them.
I can make custom tanks, although the price would be higher and you would probably have to mock it up with cardboard to make sure it would fit.
The weld definitely looks too cold. Do you know what alloy they used for the base and filler? It almost looks like they didn't use any filler at all...
I finally got caught up on tanks over the weekend and have three tanks left from this batch including the green one pictured above. The other two have battery trays, one has a blue cap and the other black. These are the last tanks until October or so! No waiting, I can have them shipped out...
I PM'd you, but you may not be able to receive them yet. Just post a few more times and you should be good; I think the limit is 5 posts for PMs. I'll put you on the list though.
