I too store cans and skis (hoods off) in my garage. Our HVAC air handler is in the garage too and when we first moved in, the wife would complain of "jet ski smell" as she calls it in the house when the a/c kicks on. Not really a pre mix smell but definitely fluid film smell from the engine bay...
