for the rubber tops, as you pull them back keep slicing it with a razor blade and you will eventually peel it all back and off. How is riding with the new pole spring? is it "weightless" i was thinking of getting one

Or, you can just ball up and ride it how it is, if the thought of the ski walking is still there after riding 50+ gallons through it then I think your not riding hard enough.
