There's your problem! Really though, call around to some engine builders and see if they have a good used crank for sale. Last year, I bought a used one from Chuck @ Team Scream for a great deal and it's lasting fine.

There is really no liquid fuel for it to come in contact with, just fuel/air mix. I think JB should be fine. But, they sell gas tank repair epoxy at most auto parts places if you don't want to use JB.
