    SXR SXR Carb Gaskets

Anyone reuse OEM carb gaskets on their SXR. Im a big believer in replacing all rings, seals, gaskets after a fair amount of use. I was just looking at my OEM carb gaskets and noticed their in perfect shape except that all the black lamination is worn off of them so their just the bare aluminum...

    SXR Ski Re-build done!

Other Serious rebuild on my Novi 42's.....Need a little Help ASAP!

I'm running Mikuni dual 42''s bored over by NOVI. I went to throw a fresh re-build kit in before i get into my season to find that the slave carb due to the lovely ethanol in gas has siezed up the pilot jet. As soon as i put a flat head to it the edges broke right away. I had a spare set of the...

Sealing Case halves with.....? What does everyone prefer?

I never put anything on the outer seal surface... i always go by manual specs and havent had a problem.... was just thinking of putting a little 1211 around the outer edge of the seals to see how that works.

Sealing Case halves with.....? What does everyone prefer?

Putting motors back together i generally use 1211 to seal the case halves and dont use anything around the outer edge on the oil seals and have never had a problem. Does anybody use anything on the outside edge of the oil seals before sealing the case halves together....just curious cuz i always...

Anyone heard of an opposed Piston, opposed cylinder engine? Its a two stroke.

I work on tugs for a living and a lot of older tugs, there main engines are OP diesels. They are pretty neat but hard to find parts for now. That would be a badazz concept for a ski though!

    Sxr800 gray stuff from exhaust

For the first few rides just run kawi chem, it's the lightest oil and it works well. After running a few tanks with the kawi chem it should begin to run a little cleaner.

    Wet sanding primer

Epoxy based primers are the best for resisting stress cracks in the gel coat and wet sand great with a 1200 or 1500 grit. U can check out my ski on my page on here. i use epoxy based primers only and wet sand the final primer coat for base coating.

    What was your FIRST ski?

I first got hooked on a early 90's Kawi 650. My first purchase was 2000 Ultra 150! I can credit buying that sit down to switching me over to strictly standups after i started nose stabbing that boat! Never been back to the sit down scene!

    carb question

If the head is machined for O-rings then thats all u should use. O-rings hold good compression. Using a sealant with o-rings will just take away from the seal. I have even seen o-ring kits used on 16 cylinder catepillar marine diesels. I would replace the o-ring kit for starters with no sealant.

    carb question

U should definately be using a gasket or O-ring kit for the head. Not gasket maker. It still could be leaking from your crank seals as well i wouldnt rule that out either.
