I have not. What does that have to do with my question?

You don't have to swap poles.

See my earlier statements in this thread.

EDIT: I see, you would have issue with someone recommending a ski with built-in tubbies, wouldn't you? :lmao:
I'll say it again: I've seen the changes in person, and I am confident it would fit my riding style better than a pre-08 SJ (stock for stock).
Why? Because those changes are all things I've done to my boat in one way or another, and they were all positive.
If you don't like people giving recommendations based on personal opinion, you better shut this site down.

Hey Matt, search for all my post today, I made quiet a few, you will find where I said Yamacat's SJ is probably one of the best I have ever ridden... Guess what, it has tubbies......

on the 08, to get the same amount of throw you have to change poles. No, you do not have to, but to get everything out of it you would need to.

Your entitled to your opinion. So am I.

Oh, when I post here, I am posting just like you. has nothing to do with my envolvement with the site.

Why is is Scott Watkins running an RPP Pole on his ski now instead of the Factory Pole?

Well... people say its more for racing than the freerider. they said its hard to get to slide, if your freeriding, gotta switch the poles, and some say that the tubbies make it want to turn without you wanting it to turn. Thats just what i have heard and read...

Sheesh, relax, the comment on Tubbies was an obvious joke. Is your ankle making you grumpy?
I don't know who Scott Watkins is, so I cannot comment on that.

I know. It really did handle really good, along with a Tricky special flattop with fullspec's.

you need to google Scott Watkins. He also works with Yamaha Watercraft, think in the product development department.

Gotcha.

Tubbies do indeed make the ski handle differently (only speaking from genuine Tubbie experience here - though the 08 molded sponsons look like mild tubbies).
I personally feel that as you get used to the different handling, you will learn to slide the ski with them (I can) and you will overcome the chine wobble (I have).
But, valid concerns. Some like them and some don't.
I would switch poles, too.
However, the sponsons and setback pump would be well worth it to me, IMHO.

I'll try to bum a ride from Tim next Sunday and post my impressions.
Maybe then I can legitimately make recommendations

Btw, ironically, Tim Gray had an RRP on his, too.
FX1 pole suck. I ran one on a Square all last year.

I've ridden the '08 in stock form and modded form, thanks to Ross Champion. It is a great set up. The stock form is very sticky and race oriented, and has great stock power. The modded form, with Tubbies III, new pole, d-cut carbon ride plate, and quick steer is a GREAT boat (especially for the surf)!!! Mine is on order and I can't wait to get it.

There is a reason for the change, have not figured out why Yamaha went to the FX pole setup. makes no sense.

What's hard to figure out?
I think they still had a bunch of FX1 poles & cables laying in a warehouse. The designers wanted a shorter pole.
End result?
FX1 pole on the ski.

Budget.

07 vs 08 ?

Come on now ? You guys got me all freaked! I finally after years of talk/searching. Finally bite bullet and buy almost new 07 (only 6hrs on it) - Lots of nice mods - impellar/grate/Bpipe/primer. Now the 08 comes out and thats the one to buy? I went from 650SX that craved nice - after only 2hrs on the SJ I still feel like I'm starting over with the learning curve!!:261::thinking::censored::eek2:
(I was so excited I thought I had the ski to last the next 10yrs?)

Don't worry about it... You'll love your ski and you'll have fun on it for the next 10 years.

Well went to the dealer this morning and they said that there isn't any 07s within 6 states of me, and on top of that they said they can't even get a 08 in. Dealer cost on a 08 is 5820, so 5900 is a good buy. I am gonna call around and check other places out, but if anyone knows where one is within 2 hours of atl, PLEASE post it on here!!! Thanks!
