I picked up a 98 sxi last year and i got a few rides out of it and blew the motor. I had a 96 zxi 1100 i didnt ride anymore so i pulled the motor and i would like to put it in the sxi. I know people have done this swap and im not sure about what all needs to be done to get this setup to work for me. I am having issues with the drive shaft, motor plate and exhaust. Im looking for a out of the hole hit and dont care about the topend. I not sure what i need to do to the pump to make this work for me.

i installed an 1100 on my sxi. it doesnt have the space as an sxr. the factory engine plate will bolt up, you will also have to have the drive shaft from an stx shortened by 2", modify the factory 1100 expansion chamber, as well as the inlet tube on the water box, cut the baffling out around the exhaust for clearence and relocate the ebox. its alot of work but do able. i will post pics of mine soon if that will help give you an idea

To fit the exhaust into an sxi hull, have your exhaust manifold milled down. You mill the face of the manifold that mates with the cylinder. This narrows up the exhaust setup and allows the stock components to fit. You still may have to grind on the outside of the chamber and a little of the hull, but you definitely do not have to cut out the water jacket and re-weld.

Anybody else know how much you mill off the exhaust mani?

Honestly just mock it up with the engine and manifold, but without the pipe and you should be able to get an idea. You can't go too far or else you remove too much of the flange. I'd guess maybe 1/4"? Certainly you'd want to be careful about going much more. Idk.. just a ballpark guess without any manifold in front of me.

Good idea about milling the flange. I think that's a much cleaner install than blistering the hull or cutting and welding the pipe. Also I really like how the exhaust exits straight back to the stock waterbox. I'm sure that drilled a bit would flow a 1100 decent enough.

Hmm this has me thinking!

I would guess you could just copy what all the sxr 1100 are running for an impeller and fine tune from there. That should be the easy part as there are way more sxr builds
