I am definitely scared of ordering from anywhere but Zig as well, but even he says he thinks it is assembly problems and not clearance issues. He definitely puts them on a lathe to double check though.

Anybody still having these issues or did Solas maybe bore it out more?

Thanks for input guys, ski clinic is close to me. With all the issues I've heard about I should probably get it down there for a proper spin on lathe and install.

I bought one from Jetmaniac a month or so ago and there were no clearance issues. Im thinking the issue is likely isolated to just a few units.

Well I tried to buy one.... Then it didn't give me anything through paypal. Then I tried again, and it gave me a order number, but still had a total at the bottom and I hit buy now and the screen went to a empty cart?? So I tried to order 1, tried again, may receive 2, 1, or none. But if I do perhaps end up with two, I will be more than happy to sell one to someone for what I just paid.

I have a solas i have run for a season with no issues. I am running a C4 spec bearing in the front of the pump which has a slightly larger radial clearance then the normal bearings. The problem lies in the fact the whole stator is stainless instead of aluminum therefore putting more of a crush on the bearings. Then coupled with the fact some people were just hammering the bearings in instead of making sure they were square and pressing them in, was in turn creating bearing failures. I also checked my housing with a bore gauge and it was slightly oval but has not affected the bearings or function in any way

Im thinking there may have been a small batch that were out of tolerance but, i would be willing to bet people that had them fail were putting them together incorrectly.

During the time problems were going on, my buddy had the same pump blow up twice, once built by one local very reputable shop/dealer and once by the competing shop. Both were properly pressed in with no hammers. I think heat is the way to go whether it be a clearance problems or installation problems.

Buying oem bearings and the adapter ring, put the complete package at about $70 less then elsewhere?
