Freestyle 155 vs 148 ... worth the 155 on my setup?

I’ve been off the forums for awhile and I’m pretty rusty on current pump consensus... mostly because my ski has been problem free for a few years. That changed when I stripped the driveshaft splines a few weeks ago. I’ve always considered moving from a 148 mag to a 155 setup. Still plan to finish rebuilding the 148, but thinking about trying out a 155 while it’s all apart... I’ve got a few questions.

Current setup is on an Xscream KDX/TPE 1021/PFP/msd enhancer/FS 48’s/155 pump housing sleeved down to a 148 with a 12/18. Been pretty happy with the setup.

Is it worth moving to a 155? Big difference? If so, recommendations on a specific 155 setup for my power (including impeller pitch)?

Thanks!

Yes Big difference :)
I would start With a 8/16 or 9/17 and 90mm exit nozzle, If you have a more aggressive riding style you Can try a higher pitch. Like 10/18 ish

I love the skat 155 SB in my KDX TPE1105 with all the goodies. I'm running a skat 11 plus/16 cutback 5mm which works ok but could be taller since my XS900R previously pushed this same prop. U might want to consider an electrical system that gives u near 34° advance timing instead of aprox 22° like an enhancer. Zeeltronics or MSD TL would spool that engine up quicker for real noticeable gains too.

Well that was a quick consensus haha. Thanks! Eric, thanks for chiming in on the TPE setup... 1021 has been solid going on 3 years now.

Many more players in the pump game it seems... any specific setup recommended over another? Skat? Torrent? Maxx? I realize this is probably somewhat subjective...

The combination of a TPE with a Torrent has been a proven setup. Brian will get your pump right the first time. He does not just sell you the parts but fits the prop to the motor setup to make it work for you. Anyone can just sell parts, but to have a company that is going to stand behind them and make sure it is exactly what you want is hard to find.

Can’t say from 148mag to 155 oem, but did see very good gains on my 781 years back when I changed from 144 to 155 with a baby prop. Just put a homemade 155 10 vein mag in my 1200 dasa with a 11/16 bighub solas and waiting to test compared to oem 155. I’d say it would be worth your time with that powerhouse of a set up you have.

Here is my opion: you can shop price and most likely spend twice. You can shop right, but the initial cost might be more, but you will have a much better chance of getting it right. Brian @Torrent is my friend, he knows so much about the WORX/TPE setups (and most others) that getting his pumps comes with the technical support that no other pump has. He also helps much more than he charges. How much is an impeller? How many will you buy to get it right? How much time will you spend getting it right.? How many times will you ask for technical advice on this forum not knowing if the advice is legit? Will you even know what "real" good is? I read on here about some guy that has an OEM pump working, maybe, but not as good as a good pump. I do admit that I have ridden a couple of oem setups and they were not bad at all, but those were smaller engines. If running a bigger engine, (a good one) then don't waste power by not getting your $$$ spent to the water.
