Custom/Hybrid 1990 SN Superjet Complete Overhaul Refoam Stubby Hull Carbon Pole Etc...

Hey X Members,

My name is Jeff and I picked up a 1990 Square Nose Superjet this past July (2011) to do a complete overhaul.

It came with a completely bone-stock 701 engine (I believe it was out of a Blaster) and everything else on the hull was stock.

I have Waterdawgkustomz footholds with enclosures I plan on installing. I plan on fiberglassing 3 inch wide rails toward the front-end of the SJ. I also plan on finishing my Carbon tubed Handlepole using the stock turn plate. The current handlepole set-up so light that I believe the Blowsion Handlepole spring won't work. I would assume about a 10 pound reduction in the pole alone...

So here are the pictures of my progress so far. If you plan on bashing me for what I am doing, please keep you comments to yourself because I could care less. I figured I would share my experience.

UPDATE 3/26/2015: Working on a turbocharger kit for this ski...

The second-to-last photo shows where some knuckle-head decided to lay an unreasonable amount of fiberglass down to "reinforce" a 18 inch-long crack. He or she also laid a couple of layers of fiberglass on the interior of the jet ski as well...

I popped the interior fiberglass off using a screw driver without any difficulty... Probably the worst fiberglassing I have ever seen.

Also,

I know that a 21 year old jet ski hull is prone to have problems, but the foam was so unbelievably wet that I was forced to remove every shred that the hull contained.

I know that these images are difficult to see, but the crack is on the Left side of the hull near the nose.

These pictures show the fiberglass I popped off and the crack.

Went through the whole gut-out build process myself on my square a few years back. Have fun with it. Feels great when it's finally finished. That total defoam sucks arse though! Good luck with the project.

Thanks! I actually enjoy this sort of thing... I grew up destroying 550 hulls to the same tune.

Here are some more pictures.

I have photos of the carbon tubes I am using. They are actually broken carbon fiber hockey shafts (Super light and perfect for what I want).

I also have photos of the Flow binding straps I plan on installing and the WDK footholds I want to install. They have been chopped a little bit to fit snug against the back of the tray walls.

Thats REALLY short on the rear! It may only want to BOB, and not plane out.

I cut mine back to the middle set of rideplate bolts (about 3.5 inches). It wanted to BOB too much with the short rideplate , so I made a new one that is a little shorter than the stock one.

Looking good man!

What are the plans for the bottom deck?
Where in WI are you?

I am experimenting with a stubby (more than normal) hull cut.

Yes, that section cut out currently will stay that way, but the pump cavity walls surrounding the actual pump will be reinforced dramatically...
I am keeping the ride plate I have, but will most likely be cutting it and bending it a little...

I am located about 20 minutes outside of downtown Milwaukee, basically in Menomonee Falls.

Haha yea, I know it is short! There is a method behind my madness though...

I am using an extended ride plate (approximately 3'' longer than stock) with the cut-back hull sidewalls. When using the extended ride plate, it should (hypothetically) plane the ski out decently. But with the sidewalls being cut short, the ski will (again... 'Hypothetically') have the tendency to want to banana-out and be "squirrly" (or however it is spelled). Basically I want this ski to be a throw around and "Bobbby" ski, if you will...

Nose mod? Like a new Nose Cover? Yes. I hate that stocker. Also contemplating making a very low hood as well... I am not committed to the nose cover or hood as of right now, but if my tray and underbody pull together as easy as I hope (which they won't) then it's probable that I'll fab something up...

EDIT:
@ Schmidty721

You have any pictures or a thread-link to any of your previous work(s)?
