Oh, and anyone have any suggestions for the ribs underneath the handle pole bracket? I am wondering if reinforcing this area is really beneficial or not?

I would reinforce all the way to the nose, including the area you mention and specially underneath the pole bracket. This area is weak.....Nuke those ribs!

Here are some updates...

Removed the bandaid someone put on my ski and found a 16 inch long hole. This is the reason that we reinforce the sidewalls (clearly).

I also found that a flaw in the molding process from Yamaha which resulted in a really thin location toward the front end of the hull. This thin location clearly lead to a crack (which you can see in the photos)...

Enjoy.

As far as the rails go, I plan on using a fiberglass core known as Balsa wood. This is an extremely light weight core that comes in 1/4'' to 3/4'' sheets. I am probably obtaining this material from www.fiberglasssupply.com

This material is perfect because it is flat, extremely light, and easily formable to make 3 to 4 inch wide rails. I will also be using this material (Balsa wood sheets) for the tray and to reinforce and mold the giant holes I created in the bottom deck on the sides of the pump-cavity.

Here is a picture of the sheets as they come (from the site):

What are all these tubes? Are those bull-bars on the nose? Hmmm... :sneaky::sneaky:

P.S. One-Way valves are on their way...

Updates.

Layed up the sides with a kevlar Tape, a few layers of glass and two layers of carbon. Followed by some vacuum bagging plastic to allow for easy working of the resin and to promote a good bond between the hull and lay-up.

Second half of the hood is currently drying, and the tray bottom (Balsa Wood Sheet) is also drying and waiting to be sized and cut.

Reinforce the sides of the hood. I cracked mine pretty bad, But mine was stock height. Going to chop it way down this year. Great looking square getting the itch to start on mine again.

So the vacuum bag on the initial layup was poorly utilized and we fixed our approach on the second lay. The initial side we laid up has lines from excess epoxy-resin that needs to be sanded carefully off... Both sides are laid and I am moving to the tray next.

^^^ I am going to use foam to fill in all the voids and essentially just make a smooth looking stub nose. It will round out to the bottom deck...

New 3 Gallon Black-Anodized Fuel Cell came in from Jegs.com!

It looks sick and has cell-foam pre-installed from the packaging...

[[They are pressure tested, and have a roll-over vent (which is pretty much unnecessary in a ski, but w/e...)]]
