When in doubt, Throttle-out.
So I finally have the upper portion of the handle pole milled. The mill we are using is sub-par and the drawing that I copied off of Autodesk is even more sub-par... But anyways... Here is where the pole is at:

Subscribed! Thing looks awesome. Whats your concept behind the wide rails?

What do you mean by "concept"?

Basically I didn't like flipping around onto the hood with the tiny stock siderails. My footing was always awkward and I couldn't set-up my body weight location very easily with them...

So, I just went for it and widened them to approximately 3.5 inches using Kevlar sandwiched with fiberglass for 3 layers on top of a balsa wood core.
It was a little overkill with the balsa wood core underneath, but I know it will never crumble under my weight now.

My latest obstacle is the damn exhaust outlet. I have it placed where I want and how I want, but I forgot about the water getting stuffed into it while riding.
Now I have to make some sort of lip around the front of it to divert the water from stuffing my X-Metal Waterbox.

By the way, the exhaust outlet to the X-Metal waterbox is HUGE. I think it is 2.5 inch on the exit-side and 1.5 inch on the inlet. Hopefully it sounds good :brap:

Have you had any experience with having the outlet right by the bulkhead. I want to do that with the build I'm doing now but scared it may cavitate

To be honest, I have not. It was the most logical location for the exhaust outlet, so I put it there...

It should not cavitate the pump however... I will be placing a 'fin' surrounding the front/lower section of the outlet, but its intention is to prevent water from stuffing up my exhaust.

I guess we'll find out if my hypothesis is correct after I slap some paint on her and get her wet. :splatt:

PAINT!!! Wel... Primer. Paint on the hood...

P.S. The paint job looks like crap. I am gonna re-sand everything smooth and start over.

I am gonna match the color of the blue turf I have by mixing the gel-coat white with a very little bit of dark blue.
AND I am gonna use a spray-gun this time and not a brush. Live and learn I guess... :smashfreakB:

Impressive build! I'm not sure I understand the balsa wood. So you've left it under the tray and along the gunwales?
It seems to me like it would maybe absorb water and swell.

Also on your bond rail, it looks like you skipped replacing the vertical section, do you know how that will effect the stability?

Keep up the good work, I like the new and different ideas you're implementing.

So balsa wood has extremely high compressive characteristics when sandwiched between a couple layers of fiberglass.
It should not swell if I sealed the edges properly (Which I know that I did).

I chose this route to make the negative-cutaway stronger underneath the footholds, AND to separate the
bottom-deck from the top-deck.

This separation will make foam replacement more manageable because if the bottom-deck
gets soaked with foam, that doesn't necessarily mean that the upper-deck did... It is much more theoretical than anything,
but I hope it is functional as well :439:
