ha ha ha.... I am a sponge for surf knowledge... I'm lways trying to forcast better and having all the right info makes it so much easier to do.

Go online and check out Stormrider Guides http://www.lowpressure.co.uk/
they will learn ya wat cha need ta know.... along w/ telling ya all the hot spots... THESE BOOKS ARE THE BIBLE OF SURF

MORE SPECIFICLY THIS ONE: http://www.lowpressure.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=69&CAT_ID=85&P_ID=169
I'll have to look at that tomorrow :haha:

all good info,also take into account the outside break here on a good swell day is well overhead in the sets at 75 yrds offshore or more,then also consider the distance you travel after you leave the wave. add a few feet of depth the longer you travel,it just keeps getting deeper and deeper here,it doesnt go back shallow again in the inlets like fl 100s of yards out.

So what you are saying is that shoaling doesn't happen in VA.????
It only happens in Florida??? Wow... that's news to me...

Va beaches have no sand bars even though it's a sand bottom.... Ok cool, I will make a note of that... Also the fact that you travel further in Va when you jump too... these are such interesting "facts" Do you live in some wierd place devoid of the laws of physiscs???

:Thinkingof_:

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Is there special sand there or are you just talking out your ass again???
Oh wait... I know the answer...
:sneaky:

I can't speak for Torr, but I know that it does get pretty deep after you get 75-100 yards out. Of, course I haven't been able to stab my 550 yet:banghead:, so I don't exactly know how deep. I do know that we found a sand bar (still too deep to swim down to) about 200-300 off shore down in Croatan (about 2-3 miles south of the oceanfront).

no shoals like fl here,but uhhh where in my post does it say something bout traveling further out jumping in VA.there is a reason crap loads of nose plants happen to fl riders,that are riding our lowly sub slutty level at best,lol. has nothing to do with amplitude and more to do with its shallow when ever and where ever in the INLETS! Only few lawn darts ever here and always on the inside of 50 yards. the bottom is different here as well as trade winds and inlets. you think every beach break and shoal on the east coast is the same? How many times have you rode our inlet again? you hit the bottom here 75 yards + and it will be a miracle even with your best Tony Montana back flip :brap:

As long as the critic's stay in one or two local riding spots. All they can do is guess, what a shame. Think the junkies have have hit more surf spots then the critic. :hail:

On the east coast. We/I have hit NY, NJ, DE, MD, VA, NC and FL. VB is second to Sebby. IMO.

that's humorous!!!
ridiculous, but humorous...

keep dreaming....

anyway... enough w/ the negativity... my original post was to mearly explain that what was said was not correct... I'm done going back and forth about it...

I'm sure the ride will be fun and there will be surf.... that's all that matters...

i think that's because the continental shelf comes closer to VB then it does in Daytona, and the slope is more extreme in VB than off the coast of FL.

of course, i'm no oceanographer so i could be way off on this...

Txj. That has alot to do with it. We also have much different inlets than fl. Once you come out of the inlet we dont have shallow spots where you can see breaking waves 100s of yards offshore.

I think Lance meant Vb is only second to sebby as far as a SOMEWHAT reliable depth with decent swell.

god I love being right:

Virginia:
We will add the map soon (no really,, yes yes honest!).
Like most of the eastern coast of the United States this is a long stretch of beach break that is broken up by jetties, piers and inlets. And like the whole of the eastern seabord it is not as consistent as the West Coast and the waves for the most part are not near as powerful. The breaks can turn on and offer quality beach break peaks but cannot be compared to the points and reefs of the west coast. This region suffers from a large continental shelf that decreases the power of the waves. Massive temperature variations as well. On the plus side the majority of surfers in the region are good and decent folks that for the most part are far removed from the aggro scene so evident at many southern California beaches...very little localism horse******** is in evidence.

Frosty, you had to get involved.... ha ha ha...

:Banane19::Banane19:
would you like to continue????

I explained this earlier in class, where you sleeping?? he he..
