A PWC is classified as a boat and I have no idea what you were trying to say there... Unless it was reclassified they really can't ban them w/o banning boats
wrong! PWC's are boats
The PWC is classified as a "Class A" Inboard Boat (a boat less than 16 feet
in length) by the U.S. Coast Guard. They are designed to carry from one to
three persons, and to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling
ON the watercraft.
Come on guys. A PWC is not a boat. We call some 'boats', but that doesn't mean a thing in their classification.
What does it mean for our tiny market? Not much really. The most popular "new" jet ski on here is a bare hull, be it Rickter, Stunt, B.O.B. etc. Bare hulls have no engines so no emissions requirement. There are pretty few 2008+ superjets on here. Most of us just keep fixing up our old stuff again and again.
XScream is an engine REBUILDER, not actual engine builder. Everything they do is considered a modification to a motor grand fathered in.
Looking at my own ski there really isn't much on it left from Yamaha at all:
cases - now available in billet from SB Products.
bed plates
driveshaft
pump wear ring
pump shoe
start stop switch case and some internals
EVERYTHING else is aftermarket and would presumably still be available.
The only DOOMING possibility I see is if 2 strokes are banned from public waters. Time to seriously support the AWA. Hopefully the clever lawyers on our side can lump our 2 stroke skis in with bass boats and the like. That could give us 5,000,000,000,000 fishermen on our side.
P.S. ATS_Scott and I make our living fixing, modifying and maintaining second generation Toyota MR2's. It is a car that has not been sold in the US in FIFTEEN YEARS. Even when it was sold the production numbers were LOW - especially in the later years (like <200 1995's). Despite these horrible facts our business is BOOMING.

The 2-strokers have been prime targets of the EPA for years, probably decades.
The USCG won't be able to change the classifications of the PWC to match those of a regular motorized boat because they'd also have to change the requirement. For instance, Navigation Lights.
Besides, all current skis are going to have to be grandfathered in. This will mean nothing more then no more new engines from the manufacturer. I bet there's going to be AM people out there still making engines. The easy way around those regulations, as already stated, the manufacturer just supplies the hull and another company supplies the engine.

EDIT: Ya'll are also missing a very important part. It's for NEW engines. When was the last time you saw a new 2-cycle boat main engine?
:lmao: Likewise, I guess. :wink:when you have more influence than the Coast Guard we will start listening to you, until then PWC's are boats... ha ha
They were engines manufactured within the past few years (ie. 2005+ model year) and being used as primary, not backup engines, right? Only primary engines will feel the effect.I see 2 smoker engines all the time. most smaller boats run 2 smokers...
I know of 5 boats I can think of just off the top of my head and all but one is smoker...

Would you happen to know the displacement of those engines you saw? Engines below a certain size are exempt.
EDIT: I don't think racing boats count...

who cares if they stop production, they aren't going to ban 2 strokes.
nuff said, go ride. =)
