2014 SJ steering blows

The new superjets steering sucks. It's like a stock square nose. I put the new cable, cold fusion quick steer, and relocated closer to the nozzle and it's still not as good as my old '06. Any advice??

Also, and someone please correct me for the op's sake if I'm wrong, but a 96 superjet cable should give you the most throw out of all 3 superjet styles (square, round, and 08).

Could anyone confirm this? When I broke my 91 superjet's steering cable from operator error I also quick steer modded my steering parts and went with a 96-07 round nose cable per jetmaniacs recommendation. You can really go nuts on the ski now and I love it.

Maybe the right cable is what you need now? Can you go any farther at the nozzle or turn plate?

Yeah I upgraded it all today and went riding right before dark, first nose stab attempt it felt like I broke something and the steering got weird so I came in. It may be my make shift cable mount on the pole. I wish some one made a mount. I can't believe yamaha would make such a bad ass running hall and then completely ruin it with crap steering

You are running a 96 cable now? If so make sure there is no physical point of potential failure in the movements of the cable...no bend from the angles created at the stop points, just curves if that makes sense.

What got me was trying to turn the bars when frozen during the winter which kinked the metal shell part at the turnplate somehow.

Here it is all layed down for anyone who ever reads this and doesn't want to go threw the 10 page thread.

08+ uses a fx1 handlepole with a short throw cable.. Yes its stupid but racing you don't need that much throw..
Yes the 96-07 cable is the one with the most throw.
The 06-07 cable is beefier then 96-05
Blowsion also makes a heavy duty 96-07 cable that I THINK I read somewhere that it has more throw then 96-07 cables.. I bought one and they are real nice with different style Ends
A 96-07 steering cable will not work with a 08+ Handle pole because the top of the pole on the 08+ is different
Both must go. Or make some kinda on bracket that will mount the 96-07 cable farther down the stock pole

I still don't know why if Yamaha wants to use the fx1 style pole why not just atleast make the 08+ cable have more throw in it OR actually tap the steering plates farthest hole and put a tap closer on the nozzle so you could atleast get some more throw and quicker steering if wanted.

I have no clue on the thread. It will give you that max of what that cable will give you which isn't really anything more then it has now. It might give you half a finger nail length of more throw. But will be slightly quicker steering.
Moving the mount on the steering nozzle closer to the inside will give you the most outta the stock cable.

Nothin, Wont ever be the same.
But a new pole, new cable and new steering system along with the mount relocated closer to nozzle will get you closest at possible.
TomSki might have more info but as far as I know that's it. I'm in the same boat as you.

I actually like that they dont steer the same, just wish they had a bit quicker steering. These skis seem to force you to take turns a bit more aggressively, which IMO has made me a better rider.

The 08+ hulls rip on a course, handles incredible lol I actually run course's bouncing the limiter the majority of the time (still stock motor) and it cuts turns like a damn ice skate. im looking to loosen it up a bit

Cut the ride plate flush with the back of the hull. Drill and tap the outer 3rd spot on the turn plate. Drill a new hole closer to the middle of the nozzle for the steering to connect to. The ski will feel a lot more loose like you want. Tip, let off on throttle to "unhook" the back end.

I would say riding the older hulls would make you a better rider. Go back to the old hulls for a weekend then you will realize how much more difficult they are to ride.

Cornering speeds and drive out of the turns are so much better on the 08+.
