2014 SJ

Shopping around for Pistons and best price and quickest turn around on a bore job.

I'm at 82mm currently.

Going to sketech this afternoon in the Chicago area since my office is 5 mins from him. He's going to take a look at the cylinder and lower end to see if I could just hone and new Pistons or if I should bore to 82.5.

Will post findings soon

Took the whole motor and parts to Jeff @ Sketech in the Chicago area on lunch yesterday for his opinion on what to do. He examined the motor, I told him my jetting specs, turns on the carbs, fuel ratio, fuel octane, etc. He 100% confirmed this was an install error due to negligence in checking clearances.

He also advised me to just buy a new crank as well. He told me it would take him a long time to get parts and since I'm in a rush go with someone who can get it done the best and fastest....

Cough..Cough...Jetmaniac

Hit up Chris and the deed is done. Parts are ordered. And I'm sending his guy in Florida my cylinder. Just went out an hour ago. Also sent Rhaas the mounts.

@JetManiac thanks again

I bought it empty with pole, hood, pump, driveshaft, stock bars for $500 and swapped the guts from my 1991 SJ. Then upgraded to from that to where I am now. Just flip back to page 1

Guess I didnt look back, but why did you put a different motor in a 2014 SJ?

Glad you will get it back together!

I still don't think I have more than 4K invested into this ski yet. Selling the square hull and parts off the old motor have helped me keep costs down

what happened to the 61x/61x 701 again??:D

Well you have the cylinder ya Darryl

And well...I swamped the motor in surf more than once. Started with 165/165, then sunk the first time dropped to 150/150. Then the second time dropped to 135-140. And that's all she wrote
Guess my beer can bilge trick wasn't working those days haha!

Future advice, that 25 min you put on the motor at 50% less power after you noticed something wrong is more than likely what toasted your crank... Next time something doesn't seem right, stop immediately. That could have saved your crank. Pistons, no but the crank might have been ok. Just an FYI

Crank isn't toasted. I just don't trust it or don't want to risk losing another motor. So I bought a brand new one. I've torn the cases and cleaned it. It will go in a beater ski motor

Learned even more problems today after a phone call with Jetmaniac. When will the nightmare end??? Now I need new sleeves because of cracks and the cylinder was decked to low in some spots using an improper tool. So the ADA head and o rings never had a chance to seal properly. Basically the cylinder had seen much better days and was so worn out from being honed entirely too much.

Luckily jetmaniac is a good dude and we're going to get this all sorted out. Plan is to drop it down to 82mm with the new sleeves.

Just seems to be one problem after another
