2015 Spring Carolina Beach Freeride Discussion Thread!

I think it will work out , the biggest difficulty I see is people'' picking up after themselves '' and leaving poop behind for others to pick up . when your on the island do not refer to it as an ''event '' or even a ''freeride '' if anyone was to ask 'whats going on'' , just refer to it as a bunch of people camping IMO . Now to back track a little bit , if the township or county came up with new camping rules for freeman Park ,would you not think that they would post them if they wanted to make a change for 2015 especially since people are planning to camp there next year ?? I dont think they would change them and not post the change IMO but we shall see I guess !

We aren't a bunch of 21 year old college students partying on the 4th of July. I expect everyone to respect the island and clean up after themselves or I will do it for them.

I've gotten nothing but good reviews from the town on the cleanliness of our campsites at freeman park and expect the same for Masonboro.

Frank they did advertise the new rules across the local news. They are going into effect in April.

OK I typed way TOO much , sorry if I offended the group . I just want to see the changes as they pertain to the 2015 permit so I can make my plans ! I will continue looking for the changes as there are documented minutes somewhere im sure ...... and I look forward to camping on the new Isle ! as far as picking up after ourselves , I just wanted to stress the point that will even have to be ''cleaner than clean'' on Masonborough due to it being MORE than just a STATE PARK imo . So Lets do it !

Ditto Frank you didn't offend anyone at all. Your information was very helpful and appreciated. Apparently the new regulations are still being written into ordinances and once that is complete it will be available for public record.

Ok guys I'm going to go ahead and post this because I'm sure someone is going to see the article sooner or later but this event has made the local news today. I think this article is mostly positive towards this event as they are directing it towards freeman park losing revenue from us leaving. I've had a couple reporters pestering me via email and they secured the info for the article from this Facebook group before I could close it from the public eye.

This puts the public eye on us even more and next spring we all need to do our very best to keep masonboro clean. Also I am changing where skis are launched to only the side of the point facing the inlet. No launching skis oceanfront. We will camp all along the point where ever you would like whether it be ocean side or sound side but all skis need to be launched from inlet "calm" area. It will be up to everyone's own discretion whether they would like to ride directly in front of the beach at masonboro as we have done it every year without incident.

Also after reading this article who can tell me they got "hooked up" on the access fees to freeman park in past events? To my knowledge i believe everyone had to pay just like the rest of the public.

Scott you need to post a reply in the Paper with the reporter ...........since we are not an event ''as Cramer stated '' how could we be getting free or half off permits in previous years , lets do some accounting on their ticket sales Ill bet that Cramer dropped a few bills in his political pocket ! EDIT heres the third page of the article :
Three years ago we let them do it and didn't charge them anything," he said. "Two years ago, we charged them half the rate per vehicle, and then this past year, we said, 'We're weaning everybody off the idea that Freeman Park is free.' "
Going forward, the freeride event will be held at Masonboro Island. There, Sink wrote, everyone will have waterfront camping access without having to pay. The move is a revenue loss for Carolina Beach, but Cramer said it was unclear how much money was at stake for the town.

"There's going to be some loss of revenue," he said. "But because they aren't an actual event or activity where they can give us attendance and money figures, we're not in a position to guess at how much revenue we'll lose."
