I have found the thing that made the ski most stable was shortening the pole. Im 5'10, went -1 (steering), then -4 (pole), then about -6 (steering again). I can almost stand on my ski at idle now (200lbs). I used to wonder how the flatwater guys had so much talent to keep a ski upriht going slow, but now i see that those super short poles play a major part in that.
At about -6, its still great for boat chasing and bouys. I think it may actually be easier on my back too. I thought it would be harder but i think it takes less core to keep the nose down. Combined with a 4" pole pad, its a pretty easy ride (should probably have a shorter pad but for now its uncomfortable to lean that far.)
Do not shorten up the pole as suggested. Do not do the OTP. A comfortable set of standard bars is what you should go for. Blows ion 4* is a good start
