The freeride for 2025 is April 3-6 for this coming year.

There will be additional hotels this year along the beach.

More info to follow.

Did I pull the event dates of 1/16-1/19 completely out of my ass or am I correct in thinking that they had announced the dates and then changed them after the fact?

So i’m not retyping Nicks comments from the county and lifeguard meetings. We could have kept original dates but they would not allow vehicles on beach. Not acceptable. So we moved back for this year missing all the other expensive weekends. Bike week, spring break, etc.

The dates were definitely changed. People will still be there during the original dates but those are not event dates. I would assume as they are not event dates, that you will only be allowed to ride in the Jet Ski zone and will need to buy a zone pass. I believe that zone is in a very different location than the Hardrock so if you are planning that, then you might want to research and plan accordingly.

People have commented about being there in Jan so if you want to catch up with them them you might be able to connect with them on the Facebook group.

I have to figure out tonight if we are changing our plans or not. I only realized the change today when I was looking to register as a rider. If we can get everything changed, we will go in April. I think we are going to be able to work it out but we need to sit down and look at it.

l don’t think the two gentlemen involved give a crap about reservations that were made previously to the date change. l definitely understand why the change had to be made, and it needed to be addressed this year.
The whole atmosphere and feeling that WAS the Daytona Freeride has been lost. Too much organization now. But it is 2024. Guess we all need to accept change. Wonder how long my post will last before being deleted :p

We're keeping our trip. We're at the Hampton just north of the Hardrock. I'm going to borrow a surf board. I may make it to the PWC zone. I may not. I wish they would have done a better job announcing the change but I have no animosity for the event organizers.

your post cant be deleted here, like the “Cleansing” of group members over on FB. Im also Not going to Muddy the X with the Daytona Drama, like what went down on FB. Yes, I was part of it. Glad it ran its course and is done and over.

Vumad, Most riders will still be riding during the January timeframe. Starting at Hugo early in the week 1/14, and working its way south to the Spot, then Daytona zone. Ill consider making a thread about that here on the X. Message me direct and ill give you details

The only place I plan to try to ride is the PWC zone in Daytona, probably on 1/17 and/or 1/18. The other dates and locations wont work for us.

Yeah , not everyone follows Facebook groups , I only see stuff occasionally there , as you can see from the Daytona freeride page the whole thing is a cluster^%$# .

I have been there twice for the event , I moved to Daytona beach right out of high school to attend AMI motorcycle mechanics school , I was in group 100 , graduated in 1982 ,I used to live in a hotel right across North Atlantic the AMI inn , I was considering going again this year , we will see how it all plays out.

I’m just curious, and since I’ve only ever been to the Pismo freerides, I don’t have a lot of knowledge to go off of. But why is it that the Daytona freeride has a bunch of sponsors, yet you still have to sign up and pay to ride? Is it because of beach rules or something?

Pizmo is a True Freeride! Show up, pay your beach fees / camping and go! As it should be! DFR started off similar, then became more about $$$. Expensive hotels, ect
Beach fees have stayed relatively the same. The town now requires Insurance due to the number of attendees. all fees get paid to the DFR committee directly.
I'm going to leave those details to the FB group, as I'm keeping the X clean of it. Feel free to read there if you want the Drama!
If you look at the Freeride trends lately, Its headed back to putting the free back into Freeride.

They announced the chang back in November.

No, they made a post or 2.
A post in not an announcement.
Posts are a conversation amongst a group.

An announcement is when you grab everyone attention and make sure everyone hears you.
@everyone is an announcement.
Highlight posts are an announcement.
Inviting the group to the event page is an announcement.
Pulling the e-mails from the previous rider registrations and doing an e-blast is an announcement.
Instead of deleting the Jan dates, it could have been edited, with BIG IT'S BEEN MOVED / CANCELED, ADJUST YOUR PLANS!
The top search for Daytona Freeride 2025 shows Jan dates because Google has the original deleted post indexed.
There's not even a post made here on X-h2o.com, which is a major part of how the event grew before Facebook. I guarantee you would have stickied the post front and center if they had asked.

It's nice that the change was posted in November.
I booked my hotel and had all my plans finalized in October.
The current event group was created Nov 2, so people couldn't have been apart of it prior to the potential change.
I checked in early November, I saw the post about the change in April. That post did not say it was about 2025. I thought since dates for 2025 were posted, that was a 2026 change. I also saw the follow up that April went over poorly and they were figuring out options. I thought those options were for 2026.
I don't use Facebook routinely. I have to go looking for information when it is not announced / pushed to notifications.
My Highlights notifications are on for the Daytona group. That feature wasn't used to announce a change. It should have been.
I only found out because I went to find out how to pay my rider fees. Even then, it was clear as mud, with no clear statement that the previously announced dates were canceled.
If you look at the group page history, you will see numerous posts in Nov and Dec of people clearly expressing they are confused.
The About page for the freeride still has 2023 dates as of last week.

It's okay to post the event dates because people are looking for them. It is necessary to announce a change to the event dates, because why would people be looking for it?

The event hosts have the greatest amount of support I can offer, I greatly appreciate all they have done over the years, but they posted dates and did an inadequate job notifying people of the change. I'm sorry, but that is not really up for debate. It's simply what happened. It's okay. People make mistakes. I am not mad. I understand the bullpoop the hosts have to deal with for permits, access, hotels, etc, etc. All is forgiven. But when people are unaware of the change, that is 100% on the event hosts, and telling people that it was 'announced' is not entirely accurate, and it's definitely not taking accountability.

I understand your concerns but the reality of the situation is that no matter what the dates are not everyone is going to be able to make the event or be happy about any changes to the event , it is what it is.
