23 foot swells on the Oregon and Washington coast this weekend

Please note I am just fantasizing here. I am not suggesting people go out in this stuff.

The surf forecast is up to over 23 feet this weekend. According to Wavewatch it's going to be one set of swells not the ugly normal mix of swells coming from six directions. Click expert view on the surf heights section.:

The swells are going to be a large 16 seconds apart. If you could get off the beach it would be an amazing ride. It might be possible to get out from the Salmon river.

It would be cool to be sitting in the Pelican Pub watching it crash over the big rock with a tasty, refreshing adult beverage. For those far away you can watch the surf from here:

been there and done that.... and it was scary...

I rode out there w/ the Blowsion crew in 20+ surf, it was really too much to handle. It's impossible to do anything but run from waves..

I was scared last year on Lake Michigan in 14' to 16' wind slop I can't even imagine 23'!!!!! It would be exciting but I wouldn't even dare to get close to the face of it.

This is also heading to Cali......not as big though.

EDIT: it is tough to trust some of these "Forecasting" sites.

Wetsand says 10 footers at Pismo this Saturday.

I almost died in chit like this 5 years ago. I still have dreams of being rag dolled on the bottom. Same year in AK an avalanche almost got me. Checked myself that year and chilled it all way down.

no turn is worth your last turn.

How the Hell do you guys break pass that whitewater?
I could do it all the way up to the last one and I did not dare trying to pass a 6 foot wall :Eyecrazy::eek:mfg: ...... on a Stock RN?
Maybe that is my problem....I need more Brap.

you just have to time it.... I have seen whitewater 2ft overhead and you don't make it through, you wait till there is a break in the swell then go. Sometimes you will have to go back and turn around if things don't fall into place...

after it breaks and turns to chit, hop up into it under full power, start with some 4-6 walls to get the hang of it first, if you have a good prop you should get plenty of drive. It always amazes me how much power that foam has.........

Yeah....that is the main reason I am looking for a hooker 9/15.....adding a pipe and head soon as well.....that should give the much needed punch. I also understand about the "opening"....just like when paddling up to the line up, you can see a spot that is usually weak and that is your path to the other side. This time I saw no breaks either, just pounding after pounding all closed up too. I was looking at guys around me, like Cuong, and he would just sort of slide sideways on top of it....I tried it once and....BAM! the wave push me backwards and I lost my ski......even tho I held onto it hard.....the whitewater just ripped it off my hands....so powerful. After that I did not try again as I did not want to make a fool out of myself...

crossing big walls of white is easy with the right tech.
dont plow straight into it, this will usually just beat you up and tire you out fast.
dont jump over it, you wont make it and it will beat you up still
come at the wall at an angle and turn into the wave and stay on the throttle. you will plow through it on edge and it will keep your pump hooked up and your momentum up.
the key is holding momentum through the foam, if your going slow theres not enough water in the water to push you. with some more speed you can keep the pump loaded in thick foam.

nothing ever works out the first time, practice makes perfect! :D

Stock superjet has plenty of power to get through anything. Our friend just got a stock FX1 and has ridden a jet ski 4 times. He was out in Pismo going through white wash to get to the bigger surf!

Chris Rosner just got 2nd at Surf Slam without one motor modification, he doesn't even have an intake grate.

Why spend all that money on expensive parts when all you need is more practice.

I agree with you on the practice, I have only been to surf 6 or 8 times at the most. Still working on my riding....that is for sure. But a stock SN carrying a 210lb guy (working on that too).....on BIG surf? Uh! that was tough for me dude.....seriously. I could not get past the last one....Oh well....some day.

Kudos to your friends!
