I agree. The 1000 is barely doing it in a lightweight hull.

Now Charles, quit being so modest-u were bustin triple backy's Sunday on my oe hull RN. LOL btw-Have I mentioned my wife hates u now? She is sooooooo'
pissed u let me ride yer XFT again, and now I want one. LMAO

well guys im going to give it a shot, just cut another inch off the hull so that makes a full
2. Riverrat is hookin me up with a msd total loss,so that should help also.I should be gettin the motor in a month, just have to finish paying him off.Next step is finding a skat 144 mag 12 vein used...if backys ar not possible it will till be one hell of a machine.PICS soon used carbon on the bond line, not finished but will post them.

150hp in a 320lb oem SJ plus a 160lb rider is 480lbs/150hp or 3.2lbs/hp.

Take 40lbs off the ski with the same engine, that would be 440lbs/150hp or 2.93lbs/hp.

To get that same weight/power ratio with an oem hull, you'd have to have 163.6hp.

However, a power trick like a flatwater backy is not about peak hp, it's torque, so a longer stroke is going to help, along with more compression, total loss, the right pump setup, etc.

I think a 7mm 85mm powervalve Lamey with a light rider on a shortened oem hull could possibly do it. Parr was getting fairly close on his heavy, stock length oem hull with a 5mm.

I'd be more concerned with just getting the motor done than doing backflips. The MSD TL will help for sure.:smokin: Good stuff!

Actually Parr was very close a year or so ago when he had his TLR 701 in there. It would not shock me to hear that he has pulled off a flair on his TLR 701 that he has in his ski right now........ It is not always about the power, but the technique.

Come riding with us at Hampton and backys are possible on any SJ .
just takes commitment and no amount of mods will make you a better rider if you have no skill to begin with .Ask me ,I know personally .

Bingo, lot's of people don't understand that.

I agree and understand completely. I don't ride to "get better" or improve my skills. I ride simply because it's fun. Other than bragging rights, it's not competitive for me. I don't believe anyone who says they would not take more power if they could have it. It may not even be money holding people back. It could be the hassle of race fuel or the more demanding maintenence schedule or any number of reasons. Power is fun, though. About the only place I could see wanting less is in the surf if it's big or blown out.

How many peeps thought a double backy was poss on a mx bike,1, with lots of determination and stupidity and big balls-he did it live on tv!!! Stay positive and ALWAYS keep trying! Negative response will never improve your ability-only will power will!!!

Bingo, lot's of people don't understand that.

I hear people go on and on about rider skill vs the machine they ride. My personal philosophy is if you can splurge the cash on the machine, do it! The jetski industry thanks you. I enjoy building and modifying skis a little bit more than I enjoy riding them. But I have found that power helps for power tricks. I was pulling tricks this past year on my x-jet that I flat out just could not have done on my old squarenose SJ. Plus, power made the trick I was doing looks more dramatic. Higher throws, marriots ect.....

Project looks good. Think it, Build it, ride it
