Surfriding 3 inch setback pump project pics.UPDATED with review

Sorry, meant 50mm. 2 inches. In racing, we are only allowed to adjust the pump, from intake to end of steering nozzle 50mms. That is why we went with a 2 inch spacer instead of the 3 inch.

if they thought it necessary to put a restriction on length of pump extensions, there must be pretty serious benefits of this level of setback, thats the nice thing about freeride,we do what ever works and the the easyest way to do it wins.
Ive talked to a number of old racers that have used diff types of pumps and all kinds of setbacks, grates, and widened tunnels I have a pretty good idea what works and why with this setup based on info others gave me. but I cant find anyone who has run this setup in a sj with a b1 shaft and freestyle trim.

Idok... i didnt notice the pump was out the back that far,It wasnt on my mind at the time i rode it,but it makes sense now that you say that with the way it turned and hooked,I dont think it had a mag in it when i rode it at tona last yr

What did you guys use for a 2" spacer? I just picked up a non setback 140 Mag for my wifes ski and it comes with an 08 SJ driveshaft. If I could add a spacer and use that shaft i would achieve faux setback on a standard pump.

Contact Bad93blaster, he can set you up with the spacer and the steering cable spacer. All you will have to do is mod your exit nozzle to line up with the bolt holes.

boyer,I wouldnt waste time doing a small spacer just to use that driveshaft, its a PITA job and if your going to do it,you are gonna want the full spacer results.just sell the 08 sj shaft and get a used b1 shaft or have chris make you one out of a couch shaft for cheap. tubbi makes anice steering cable extension that might make things little more easy though, still not sure there is enough room to pull the cable 3 or 4 inches tighter though

I likely just won't bother on her ski then, I just figured if there was a quick and easy bolt in spacer it wouldn't hurt. This is an unsanctioned upgrade and must be done on the downlow. Her ski will just ride better at Daytona and she won't know why, lol.

When do you get to water test this little experiment?

if you have a b1 shaft and old swollin wear ring around, this is deff a no brainer. Ill let ya know if its worth buying the parts and doing once i get some good size surf time on it

What I was going to do to extend my steering was to get a ball joint rod end from mcmaster that had a long shaft, I think some seadoos also have some pretty long ones.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#rod-ends/=a23dfd

I only needed an inch so I'm not sure what they will have for your 3 inch set back but its worth a look.

don't use those mc master ball joints. they rust really quick and will fall apart. Stick with an OEM sea doo or yamaha ball joint(gp or gtx)

Here is the 2" machined spacer and custom steering cable spacer Bad93blaster has been selling for awhile. Just have him make the cable spacer longer for the full Wear Ring.

wonder if he can make a piece just like that but longer that would thread on to the extension i made slightly and then cut taper it down hollow to a size just bigger than the largest part of the steering cable extending mid way back it,to reinforce the extra length

Here is what I did when I added trim and the steering cable wasn't long enough. It's fairly simple and I see no reason why it couldn't be made longer to accomodate your needs. If you need me to make you one, send me a PM.

Finally got this thing tested,we finally got some higher temps and good surf in the same day,its been freezing here. This ought to be called the stabilitract mod. I got everything out of it i was after,it holds the nose a couple inches higher and allows the ski to turn more from the center to the back like a rickter or rocker hull. It tracts and turns down the face of large waves unbelievably better. Recovery's from large airs are more easy,it powers out of the big landings immediate. It has a feeling of solid connection to the last sec on thin toped waves on reintres, compacts whitewater great on landings,it sounds diff like a supercharger its right at the edge of hookup in highly aerated whitewater. Turns 2x faster, doesnt sink the nose on big waves slashes as easy,Trim is almost 2x more effective and faster.

To top it all off high speed corners like its on rails, chine walk with tubbies is completely gone in glass at speed.I couldnt get it to break loose, run out of water or cav in high speed dang near 90 deg lean turns, was bouncing my shoulder off the water and eating it before the ski showed any of those issues. I shimmed and lowered the grate a tad,cut a slight window in the top loader to shoot water at where the prop now sits,It needs some experimenting with diff ride plates, the d cut ride plate im using is no longer necessary for sure.I could prolly shortin the pole a couple inches with this setup as well. I can find no down side as of yet.
