300/440/550 440-550 built motor not starting for the 1st time =(

not so much skis but other small engine things.. i rebuild a wetjet b4. but never really swapped out parts. it took only like 3 secs to get a 160 comp reading. and rev limiter?? wheres this? and still using the selector switch since i ride on a huge lake.

The rev limiter would be right next to the fuel filter with a line going to it from the carb,... this would be the return line to the tank. There will be anotner small line going back to the carb, and another that goes back to the tank.

so i have the pulse line. on the far back of the carb. the return line on the top part and fuel in line on the bottom. (SBN) is this correct? i also didnt see the rev limiter. is this because its a 440 with a 550 motor?

what else should i try and look for? basicaly i need to start with the correct lines and where they go and how many turns on the air/fuel adjustments i should start with. ?

I am using the bn, so I am not sure if the tuning is the same on the sbn, but that is not goning to matter, if you don't have fuel going through it. Start simple. Take one fuel line directly from the tank and go into the carb. make sure your pulse line is working. and then see if fuel comes out of the return. By bypassing everything else you will find out if your pump is working properly. If it is then hook your fuel lines back up through the res. switch and do this again. Then you will know if there is a problem with your switch. let me know when you get that far and what the results are.

good spark. good fuel. good timing. it almost starts with no carb and noithing with a carb on. so im thinking a carb rebuild. nice info in the leak down test. im going to save that

started it with no carb and it fired up immediatly! and i had to quickly shut it down. i put the carb on after drying the carb out and set the high and low screw to 1/2 turn and fired than died. def flooded agin. why does it keep flooding? am i doing somthing wrong?

thank you. the pistons arnt backwards and i got a 160+ psi reading when in installed a better starter. the old hardly spun. now it just seems like a carb issue. i gtg get way smaller jets today and try again. im getting closer tho

i tried smaller jets got even closer but still nothing. when it almost starts the starter disengages and spins freely... and it still seems to be flooding. maybe time to rebuild the carb?

Are you sure it's flooding? If it is flooding that bad, then it's probably a needle and seat that are completely shot or a spring that is cut or missing. Unhook that carb and pour some premix down the throat or use the primer to see if you can get it to run. Make sure your idle screw is set well enough to run and not choke out the engine.

I think the mikuni manual tells you how to check out the carb. You should be able to blow or suck on different nipples and get the results you need. Open up the carb and look at the little valves and gaskets. Make sure they seal and open when they are supposed to.

Besides the needle, seat, and spring, which aren't in a carb rebuild kit, a worn out carb will not supply enough fuel.

blow and suck on the nipples LOL. but seriously. yeah i took off the carb and it ran for a short time. i think i wanna start fresh with a full rebuild and what size jets, needles, springs, etc should i get to start out with?

They all work together and I don't have a 550 with an SBN. Do some searching and find some similar modded boats and their carb specs.

That said. I'd start with 2.0 n/s, 80g spring, 97.5 and 110 jets. I would also get some jets and springs in each direction for fine tuning. I would about guarantee that will start and run on a hose if nothing else. Tuning on the water, I would about guarantee that you will need those extra jets and possibly a different spring.

ill try those jets. whats every1 else running for jets, springs, etc on a 550 pp motor? im going to buy a bunch of different jets, springs, etc
