once i finish up my x2 build ill be tinkering with the 550 i built last year. I havent even rode it yet so i dont know whats up with it yet. I put together for friedns to ride with me and that. But If it works out and runs good ill defanatly cut some hand holds in it and do the liner up. Why not? Ive got a few 550 hoods here fearless so if you need one lemme know.

right on yeah id be down to use one that looks like butt, just as long as its in good structural shape. im most definetly going to wind up repainting whatever hood i use whenever i get around to it.

and when anybody does do their lining take pics and show me the steps because before i hit this project most likely this summer with all thats invlolved i have to learn how to build the lining and use epoxy and fiberglass.

now you got me thinking. i got everything i need to do it to my pjs hood. hmmm the 550 might get some lovin tommorrow. You'll get some good practice for when you get your SN superjet and need to do that hood. and then eventually you'll get a RN jet and buy a sweet C/F hood. you got lots time/years to get to the RN superjet. no hurry. all of the best rider i know are older than me and they rip cause they have years of riding and building to get to the point they are today. Its just good times.

yeah thanks i started riding my dads old js550 when i was 7 then i picked it up when i was 14 over a july weekend at the lake. And now i got my own and im addicted ive found the one sport and hobby in life i can really dedicate it all too. Getting my trailer hitch ive saved for so i can start hitting Oceanside every weekend or day off i can. thanks for the support. and read the post above im really interested because im also clueless when it comes to epoxy and carbon fiber.
thanks and good wrenching tomorrow

look for slutty liner pics, same concept. I was a bit anxious about getting everything thought out beforehand, but the hardest step was getting started. As soon as I ripped out the old liner, it was pretty much a piece of cake. I'm using lightweight marine grade plywood to epoxy in place of the old vents, (although luon is fine too, and cheaper! I had some laying around), and then using epoxy mixed with wood flour to fill it up a majority of the way, then using quikfair to get the final finish. For the liner Im going to make a template, and then use one layer of heavy biax, and mabye a layer of light cloth on top to get a smoother finish, then I'll lay it right in there and glass it up.

I'm finished with the handholds, filling/fairing, but have been putting of glassing in the top of the buckets and doing the liner, as it's pretty cold right now.

Nothing personal theres Nothings wrong with them i just dont like the square of it. and their the easiest to find... kinda but with a 701 i think thats a rare find.
If i ever got one id get the round nose hull i just like em better thats all.

Hey bro I'm not trying to call you out, but you are preaching about how it's all about having fun and it doesn't matter what you ride. If that was the case then you should careless about how a square looks.

My first standup was a squarenose and yeah it didn't look that great, but it was still a superjet and was a helluva lot better than a 550.

If you're as serious as you say you are about freestyle/freeriding try and find a cheap squarenose and build it up yourself. Ride the $hit out of it and then sell the thing and if you do it right you might make a little or at least get your money out of it then you can put that money towards a roundie.

yeah very true i get what your saying. but i like the challenge of my bucket. Its never going to be a superjet. but it still rides/ goes fast and rips around pretty good.

Most of the guys I have let try couldn't ride my 550. They haven't been on anything smaller than a superjet. As far as I'm concerned, it may not be a superjet, but at least I can ride my husband's superjet AND my 550....in the end, it doesn't really matter what you ride, the fact that you are is the best part. You learn better balance with them anyway. Quit dissing the 550, they are cool little skis and they have feelings too.:cheer: :Banane01: Please don't flame me.

if you can learn the basic standup jetski tricks on a 550 then when you get the superjet you'll be laughing. a really good mod for the 550 is a 44SBN carb with spacerplate and the factory pipe. i got my 550 off an old racer, it is a limited setup and used to be his practice boat. last summer i installed the 44 sbn carb and it has never ran so good. i wish my superjet weighed the same as the 550.

No one is dissing a 550....but for someone wanting to learn freestyle. a 550 is not the right choice

you could make a snorkel out of pvc and attach it to the air intake and have it go up about 5 feet high. imo that waould be the best way to keep the water out and it could run under water. just a thought

Just curious but why wont a 550 freestyle? If you have the power and the steering throw, then why wont it freestyle? They are light and that should help freestyle shouldnt it?

those are two important keys of a freestyle boat, but there is the way the ski makes power(solid and down low for freestyle) 550s really cant make that even with a 750 theyll be a mid or top end ski and that is also due to the 550 pump size, it cant process the water like a sj can. The other is the stability, sj;s are light and very stable, the way they turn is unlike a kawi or 550 in your case, ive also never got a 550 to turn as sharp as a sj, i didnt put alot into it but the snappy sj steering is def helpful along with power.

I am actually riding a pjs viper 7000 with a 440 afterburner pump. This ski handles way different from a kawi 550. It will turn like nobodys business and will beat a kawi 750 set up for freestyle out of the hole. I have never ridden a super jet, so I cant compare, but maybe my ski rides more like a sj? You can either make it slide like a beast, or make it hook up in the corner so it will turn so sharp it will almost cut itself in half depending on body position.. A kawi 550 wont do that. I havnt done any freestyle on it due to no foot holds, but I hope to have some in soon to try it out. Thanks for the responce.
