I am actually riding a pjs viper 7000 with a 440 afterburner pump. This ski handles way different from a kawi 550. It will turn like nobodys business and will beat a kawi 750 set up for freestyle out of the hole. I have never ridden a super jet, so I cant compare, but maybe my ski rides more like a sj? You can either make it slide like a beast, or make it hook up in the corner so it will turn so sharp it will almost cut itself in half depending on body position.. A kawi 550 wont do that. I havnt done any freestyle on it due to no foot holds, but I hope to have some in soon to try it out. Thanks for the responce.

Those PJS 550 Viper Motors are just MEAN ive torn some apart at work my boss rebuilds them and sells them.

you could make a snorkel out of pvc and attach it to the air intake and have it go up about 5 feet high. imo that waould be the best way to keep the water out and it could run under water. just a thought

I have thought about it and it would be amazing if the pvc would be able to stay on the hood then i could have myself the very first kawasaki 550 submarine vehicle:woot:
Good thought that was funny

You must work for gordy.. I have purchased a bunch of parts from him.. We have two of these skis and ours are way more powerfull than stock.. special tuning and redesigned pistons cuts.. make a stock viper 7000 look like stock kawi 550 when we go by.

I'm running a viper 7000 motor to! but it ran real bad last summer. alright so i got it of ebay and it didn't run right... So i started it up and the 440 pump was shot and bearings shattered so i replaced it with a 550sx pump. Ran a little better but then wouldn't go past idle before it would die. Rebuilt the carbs at end of the summer and both of the 38s(mikuni) internal fuel filters were clogged to the top. After that it started and ran fine but was only runing crappy 40's mph. then winter.... Do you think it was my carb tuning??
O ya i still havn't checked to see if the pistons are cut. THe guy said it was rebuilt a couple years ago and maybe they put the wrong pistons in.. i'l see

How do you make them run so good?? mine ran horrible last summer and i'm lookin to blow people out of the water with it this summer

uhh well i havent personally tuned one of those things my boss isnt too fond of them he says they werent the best PJS made yeah they rip but i think its the hassle to get them there. but yeah i now for sure your pistons have to be drilled for the viper motors somewhat the size of a piston shaft that keeps the piston connected to the rod. and yes check all your fuel filter lines, make sure good fuel too its best to start with all those covered before you tackle tuning the carbs. especially with dual carbs not worth the hassle to come back for a bad fuel line or filter again. I would most definetly check those pistons Gordy has too many copper gaskets for sale for the rebuild. he can also drill you the size pistons you need. i would start there. thats the biggest issue to check right there if thats your suspicion.

Hey fearless. Are those 38mm keihin carbs?? If so could you ask gordy how much he wants for a pair of those? Ski33.. The viper motors came with keihin carbs, so I know very little about the mikunis... The engines are very touchy on the carb adjustments.. With our keihins we had to change all kinds of stuff in them to get them to run right.. jets, pop off pressure, and float level plus other stuff. Get your self 440 pump to put back in that thing.. way better than a 550. I would say check your compression and see if one cylinder is lower than the other.. you should be running about 165-175.. any lower and I would say you are in need of a rebuild. If you rebuild make sure you pull the jug off and polish everything in side.. thin down all the parts that air flows by with out sacrifising strength. When I got my ski about 3 years ago it would run 48 mph with a bent rod. Not sure what I am running now, but the ski pulls way better all the way up to the top. Were you hitting your rev limiter? We disconected ours and set the idle screw so that the ski will shut off when you let go of the throttle completly.. Gained some rpm, but by removing the rev limiter we lost our shut off button function. I dont think carb adjusments are your only problems, but like I said check the compression. Do you have any pics of the motor? The cases should be grey in color and the electronics box should be mounted on the front of the motor. To get mikunis on the pjs engine I think you have to run adapters.. not sure about that.. make sure you have good reeds in it to.. and stuffers.. should have come with those from the factory, but who knows with ebay stuff.

Just a thought !!!

read through this post. this kid really looks like he wants to try hard and give freestyle a good shot. saving hard and working hard on his skis to just ride. this is what its all about no matter what ski he rides.

i love skiing no matter what is on just as long as i am on the water. just hook the kid up with as much advise and knowledge as we all know is about on these forums. i use it everyday for tips and advice.

And i am sure the kid would love a SJ even if it was a square nose. Maybe out of the hundards of users and parts whores on here :hail: someone with a empty hull they dont need could help him out !!!! i mean i seen SN hulls being litterally given away on here. then maybe he could practice on his 550 over the next season or so and over the summer and winter save a few dollars to make himself up a pretty nice freestyle SJ. Just a thought.

And before anyone says you hook him up. DUDE i would give you a square hull i have knocking around but problem is i am in the UK

We Need YOUNG blood. Good Luck To ya mate and keep us all posted !!!!
