300/440/550 550sx Hull Modernization Build

I really hit a wall when I moved to Brooklyn this summer. I got the final coat of color on - after re-priming it. It looks pretty good but still need to put the seal coat on to finish it off. Doubt I'll be able to get it on the water this summer - but you never know! Kinda bummed but still got plenty to keep me busy.

Just curious if you know how much the hull weighs after all this work? Do you think you lost, gained, or stayed the same weight?

every one knows this is one of the coolest builds on the web thats just amazing and im so interested to see how it rides i singed up to this site just to post here and follow your build i wish there was more it was better than watching a movie to watch that ski being formed i love how u did the rocker and custom nose i want the same ski now haha

Jacorey - Total hull weight (hood, hull and first paint coat) is close to 100lbs. not as light as I'd of hoped, it's going to be primarily pushed as a surf cruiser and just general fun ski, I don't intend or even care if it can do backflips at this point haha.

550sx - Thanks man - I appreciate the comment a lot - it's comments like these that make me look forward to when I have time in the future to continue this build. Living in an apartment in NYC means I have no way in hell to continue this... I mean that's not the truth and I know there are probably plenty of people on this site so dedicated to this sport that they would find a way haha - but I have biking and snow skiing to occupy my time when this doesn't - so I'm never without some way to injure myself!

CRJ - Thanks man, I love the way it turned out. I can't wait for the day it hits the water!

small update, still trying to get the paint just right. I finally got the second color of :):):)ushima yellow on it.

ok, we will see it up and going this spring hopefully!! ive got a build just like yours, sorta. only mine is a 750 big pin conversion and had a 650 pump cavity, and im an amature fiberglasser lol, but its going together ok. the ideas ive taken off your build are the rocker nose, i shortened my hull 6 inches, im going to do the pump tunnel mod, im going to make the bottom two ridges steeper for more grip in turns, im builgding a new nose out of fiberglass and the handlepole is going to mount at the very front like a rickter, and some reinforcing, and i got alot of bodywork to go! lol. check out my build sometime, i have to update some pics. the new pics the ski is looking much better, going to my uncles today to do all the sanding and body work and some glassing becaus ehis garage is heated lol, i only got a little kerosene heater and it doesnt help too much with the glassing.

i got tubbies in a trade from skibum, theyre pretty good, the craftsmanship and levelness of them are a little off and require some grinding to fit, but they look good. gonna be ordering some epoxy because i guess that epoxy sticks to the polyester resin i was usin but the poly wont stick to the epoxy lol, and some cab o sil, im starting to get in the swing of the whole composites thing lol
