61x Ebox mount location in X-2

So I was never a big fan of the ebox sitting where the old oil tank was and it being held in by a rubber strap. I wanted it bolted down and stored more efficiently and wanted it to look clean. I made these mock up brackets from a 3D printer to see where the box would end up. Below is the first rev and they definitely need some changes. I am going to move the mounting forward and down so the fuse is still accessible and so it is not so close to the bottom of the carb, it is just to close for comfort(seen in pics). Also the final brackets I will probably cut out of 6061 3/16 aluminum with a water jet I can use at work. The metal will be threaded so the bolt head will be on the motor side unlike it is in the pictures, this also will make it easier to remove if needed with the motor in the hull. Has anyone else mounted a yamaha ebox in this location? If so please post some pictures I would like to see others peoples set ups. The only downside I see to this is water entering through the hood would dump right on top of the ebox, but I have a shaved hood so the amount of water actually getting in through the air vents into the engine bay is very minimal.

Beat me to it!
I’m using a R&D Dominator manifold, the manifold sits further out and forward so I will have to make my own brackets anyway..
I bet you could print those %100 infill with carbon fiber nylon and they will be plenty strong.

They are to thin as of now for the carbon at 100% infill to be strong enough. Also I lost access to my carbon printer at school since quarantine wont let us on campus. Aluminum is cheap anyway. Definitely like Jetx setup it sits way more forward than mine. Only had mine so far back initially because I thought it would be a lot closer to the battery but looks like I have some more room to move up.

On another note, Jetx where do you get the cable wrap that is on the battery cables in your picture above? I always like to look of that mesh woven cover but never know where to buy.

JetSkiSolutions does cable work like that but you can look up shrink wrap and cable sleeve.

Kinda off top topic but how do you like the 701 in the X2 vs 650 or 750?

I had a 750 swapped x2 before the one I have now. It was slightly modded and it pulled ok. The x2 I have now has a moderately modded 701 and it pulls so much harder than the 750 kawi I had. I don't not like kawi motors but honestly don't think I will ever go back to the kawi motor after seeing the power and reliability from the 701. I still have the stock prop currently and it pulls hard, looking forward to putting a nice prop in there to see the difference that makes.

Cool thanks. I have thought about doing one for years but never really see a review of the swap.
I have looked on PWC about them also.
I can post pics of my swap if your interested when I assemble it over the next week or so. I will also keep this thread updated about the ebox brackets

Off topic.

The best my X2 ever ran was with a superjet waterbox and a right rear exhaust.

I tried to prevent water ingestion from the carb side for a long time before I realized X2 eat water from the exhaust side.

My superjet has never eaten water. I lost my 650sx to water blowing out the crank bearings. My X2 has been swamped more times than you can imagine.

If you are sticking with a front exhaust, consider using a B1 or aftermarket outlet on the right side infront of your ebox. The shape of the B1 outlet is nice because you can angle it upwards lining it up with a pipe coming over the top right of the tank.

Just some thoughts. Otherwise good luck with your ebox.

Remember if you mount it low and ride in salt keeping the hull dry is especially important.

Right on the money. Up front on the right side so I still have room sponsons in the front. Got the outlet from John at Watcon. Looks sweet

Just put the stock gas tank in and its a little tight with my factory pipe. Have you seen any other tanks people are running? Will a superjet tank fit?

I think I did see a picture of a superjet one but I'm not sure about how they got it to fit. You can run a 550 tank sideways but you have to cap off the fill. You can use one of the combo fill/pickups. Jazz tanks work but they are pretty much limited to 3ga. You can also try to get something special welded up (make sure you pressure test it).

You can also heat the tank up and mash it in and use some hydromat.

I was thinking about this... I could be wrong but I think that the picture I saw with the superjet tank was a Superjet 701 motor with a FPP using a B1 mod (wrap around style) chamber and a bunch of heat on the tank.

I have a FPP pipe on my 750, but the header pipe angle on the 701 motor is different than that of the kawi. The kawi FPP doesn't fit very well in the X2 hull. That is why most of us running the FPP with SJ chambers ETC used the westcost 650 manifold bored out the best we could.

It's all a bunch of miserable trade offs. If you don't need the volume, a 3ga jazz/kart tank is probably the best solution.

Little confused let me make sure im reading this right. So a FPP kawi chamber fits best in the x2 only with a kawi motor but it doesnt fit well with a 701 because of the headpipe angle? I am better off running a b pipe chamber and melting my tank a little because the b-pipe chamber fits better with the 701 head pipe angle? Im thinking this is a problem i have because currently I have a b-pipe headpipe but kawi 650 chamber, and the chamber rubs on the tank (have turf as buffer) but it also rubs on the ribs on the hull wall and has worn some of them away. Im trying to think now if it is worth my time and money to trade the kawi chamber for a b-pipe chamber and melt the tank a little so I can have it stop rubbing on the wall.

No, don't worry about what I said. a 61x motor with a matching FPP should be just fine.

Update: finally got the chance to waterjet the brackets today out of 3/16” 6061. Quick countersink and tap and they are ready for mock up this weekend.
