62T bottom 61x top price question

Highly doubt they just put in a new OEM crank and are selling for 850. OEM cranks are over 1k.

What’s the engine included? Electronics? carbs? Starter?

Buy a Superjet

Do you have a ski yet? Be better off buying a complete ski. Or finding a cheap Waveraider 701 or 760 you can buy gut, rebuild the engine yourself and have carbs electronics etc.

Nope, I’m looking for a 96-07 Superjet for everyday riding when spring / summer comes. Following everyone’s advice, I’m currently looking to get something clean that I can ride consistently. 96-07 seems like everyone’s favorite. It seems like 3-4K is fair pricing for a clean ski but a lot of skis have bolt on parts I’ve been having to research. I’ve also learned the b pipe and what it’s worth, I’m trying to find a ski with one already if I can.

I’m also trying to buy parts for a AM build, hopefully picking up a 150 torrent pump soon driveshaft pre07 prop 13/18. I thought about buying an am ski complete, I haven’t decided on a hull yet. I still think I can start procuring parts for the future. I keep finding complete with parts project ski’s in various stages of construction, I might buy one of those just to fill out the shelves and get electronics. I didn’t look for waveraiders, I know I’ve seen a bunch on Craigslist. I’ll look into that

On engines, unless it's coming out of a known running ski or from a reputable source , if they are not in a ski where you can physically crank it up, do compression checks and ride it to thoroughly check it out before you but it then assume it's junk and pay accordingly.

Would it be irresponsible to not start with a 701 on your first am build?

I sorta get a boner when I see the nice built tpe or Dasa motor

I come from Harley’s so motors are super easy, two stroke worlds different and I only have experience with 2stroke dirt bikes. I’m was going to build a motor and just follow Liquid Graffix guide.

701 would be a great start personally I am partial to 760's but to each his own , there are tons of non running skis out there dirt cheap, at least then you know it doesn't run, it can only go up from there, a lot of guys buy old waveraiders or GP 760's and bolt a 61x top end on them, then you have a superjet motor, I have seen a few 61x's come through with 62t top ends they were swapped for this very purpose, most guys would.t know the difference on a sitdown and Waveraiders came with both 62T and 61X engines installed.

i wouldnt buy a used engine like that to use for a performance build without going through it first. i wouldnt pay more than a few hundred dollars for that engine. i would be taking it apart to be ported and all seals and gaskets replaced because of piece of mind for me. that engine is most likely at the stock 81mm bore so while it might still make 150 psi, you dont know the true condition of the engine. things start happening with more timing, compression, pipes, more rpm, etc. they run fine in a stock sit down but in a stand up, the engines are ridden much harder. this is why i go through the engine completely first. i dont like doing things like that more than once.

Like @Quinc said, if you don't have a ski yet you're better off waiting for one that's complete. Piecing one together will cost far more in the end especially if you don't have parts already laying around.

Old Superjets that run have had their price bid up more than the value of its parts. Dumb kids are easy to sucker and (almost) none of them stay around very long. It takes some time and a ruined hull/engine (or two) before they figure it out.
