FX-1 650 pump in Fx1 build

I started this build a while back after looking at special FX's build. I ground down the pump mounting surface so it was level. I basically ground the hull to fit the pump. I'll be using a skat-trak swirll 13/18 along with a TBM super pump cone. Here are a few pics. More to come. Thanks to Special FX for all the the help so far.

Looks cool so far. Make sure you do something to address the gap between the back of the pump and rear of the TBM cone. The o-ring seal needs to go far enough into the pump and be protected by a metal flange to guard it from the pressure (just like the stock end cap did).

I make an extension/spacer out of the old 650 end cap to take of this. I use teh R&D pump cone though and I'm not sure how this would work for the TBM?

I took a few more pics of what I've done so far. I also made a 4mm spacer to make the TBM cone work. I used a stock pump cone, just like Special FX. I need to do some final sanding and then run a layer of glass over the area I ground down. I think it's coming out pretty good. What do you guys think?

I made some progress this weekend. Did some more fiberglass work and drilled the mounting holes and got the pump mounted. Now I just need to do some final sanding of the intake area and paint! :bananajump:

Lookin' good man!

Hey, one tip for ya.........To give you more adjustablility on the steering cable, you can pick up a 1" threaded coupler at Homer Depot and cut it down to 3/8" and then thread it into the steering cable fitting and then thread the cable fitting into it. In simple terms, in just moves the cable retaining nut back a little.

It's not necessary to do this, but it gives better thread engagement into the cable end. I'll post some pics soon, I'm getting ready to do another pump conversion myself.

Worked on the ski a little. Just about done! Next I can put the motor back in. Here are some more pics.:brap:

The ball end I used for the stering, came off a sea-doo VTS. Here are a few more pics of the build showing the mounting of the pump. I also thought I would show what the ski looks like.

Wow the 650 pump looks alot easier to fit than the 144mm. I'm over my 144mm pump. I didn't get the alignment right and it has chewed out several bearings aswell as a long and short shaft. How does the 650 pump affect the stearing? I was very disapointed with how much the 144mm pump slows the stearing on an fx1. Can't believe I threw out a 650 pump at xmas thinking I would never have any use for one.

I haven't finished putting the ski back together. Ski should be done in about two weeks. Then I'll just be waiting for all the ice on the lake to melt! Special FX said that the 650 pump made his stearing more responsive.

i have most of the parts for this 650 conversion if anyone needs them. I am going the sj pump route instead. 650sx pump, reduction nozzel, steering nozzel, cap, short shaft. hull bearing. everything but the long shaft. $75 plus shipping. All in good shape.
