951 in my 750sx freestyle buildup

Its alive!!! I have some crappy phone cam video of the motor running on the garage floor on a burst of carb cleaner. I only did it once for like a second just to see if I did everything right. It was great to hear that motor fire up after all this time.

My pole bracket came today, so as soon as the bottom is painted Ill be fitting that and finishing my glass work around the pole mount area. All thats left is fuel and cooling lines, and routing the exhaust which I plan to do in 90% aluminum tubing and very few couplers. I also have to build the side exhaust outlet.

ok, here ya go..

you know its a heavy motor when you need a cherry picker to put it in.

I need to clean the pole area up and glass it up for a clean look.

I really need some guidance on the cooling lines on this thing. there are like 8 connections on the pipe and motor. If you can help please pm me.

I made a waterbox tonight. took forever to roll into shape by hand. the seam is in the back so I dont ever have to see it again, the crappy welded end is on the bottom and the one after the most practice is up top. 3rd day tigging aluminum. I never knew you could get sunburn from it.

we buttoned up everything last night and fell short 3 rideplate bolts. Hitting the hardware store at lunch and the ski is set to see the water after work. Will post update after the ride. Can anybody give me a general idea for the screw settings on my buckshot 50s?

Looks good... funny, under your hood looks looks like there is more space that my see-dodo rx with the 951. guess a aftermarket/ home made pipe and getting rid of that air box and stock pipe make for a lot simpler installment... looking good can't wait for a ride report

I rode it today and the motor has an issue. It dosent rev up very quickly, there is no throttle response. Almost like 1 second of lag form the time I hit the throttle to the time the engine actually does anything. Im going to lean towards fuel or timing. I am also trying to find out what mag cup the MPEM I bought needs to run with, maybe thats the problem. Or the fact that the BRM 50s I bought I never took the time to disassemble and look inside for cleanliness and jetting.

ok, motor is out, stator cover is off. Looking at my mag cup there are 3 small protrusions and one large. When I put the motor back together (after 2 years) I lined up the rust marks on the flywheel with the large holes in the mag cup... Not taking into consideration there are 4 protrusions on the mag cup, 3 small and one large. According to pics on the manual the large one lines up with the small hole in the flywheel. This put the large protrusion 180 degrees from lining up with the hole it was meant to line up with.

Now would reversing the spark plug wires have made this run? poorly? I really wasnt sure about where the plug wires went to begin with. It started up so I was happy with it. never thought for a second I had plug wires crossed.

I moved the mag cup to the correct spot. Ran way better still a lot rich, I turned the screws in a bit and it cleared out and took off! Scarry fast for like 20 feet and the pump cavitated like mad and wouldn't hook up the rest of the time i was out. I have a 15 21 solas in a stock 750 pump. Any suggestions?

it hooked up and then never hooked up again? at all?

pretty much thats what happened. the whole way back in it would not hook up. I looked under the ski in the pump area and the seal is still there, nothing else looks out of the ordinary. MAYBE now that the motor finally cleared itself out and runs kinda right the prop/nozzle/pump cone setup is not right for the motor? I have an x2 nozzle, wet wolf freestyle cone and a solas 15 21 prop. I guess tomorrow Ill try the stock tail cone and see if it helps.

Ran impressively good tonight. The cavitation issue was the exit nozzle blew the metal inserts right out and was hanging an inch off the pump. Didnt see it until I dropped the ride plate.

This is way too much motor for a standup!! The only issue I am having now is it loads up really bad at low RPM when getting started off. Once it gets on plane its an animal, I fell off at full speed 2 times and seroiusly tumbled on the water at least 2 full turns... What would make it load up and then clear out once on plane? jetting or low speed screw? or a combination of many things? I am terrible with carbs, and honestly on these BRMs I couldnt even tell you which screw is the low and the high. nothing is marked.

I did pull off my reed cages thinking I may have a problem there, the mag side cage the pedals dont close tight against the cage. I tried to get the screws out and flip the pedals over but stripped out the screws trying. would that cause the issue Im having?
