96 + prop for flatwater freestyle ?

So i just did a search on props and no good results.

I am forced to buy a new prop after I stepped on a zebra mussle to the bone and had a buddy take my boat back to the launch. After hour night time fishing accident.

I have a 96 SJ with a B pipe, girdled head (175 psi), Advent Ignition and Boysen reeds. I need to know the best prop for flatwater freestyle.

I need to ride when I heal up next week.

Most will say a Skat-trak Swril 12/17 or Solas Concord 13/15or16 with the rear hub cutback a minimum of 3mm or more. My Skat is cutback 5mm.

It's just cutting out a bit of the inner hub of the impeller so that it sits closer to the pump stator veins, reducing cavitation and improving hookup.

For a ltd. that you want the most top speed from you would want that 14/19, but most freestyle/freeriders sacrifice a little top end for more bottom end hit. More so with the flatwater riders as they need every ounce of bottom they can find. Hope this helps.

eric, 12/17 will be fine. dont worry about cutback...i havent notcied a difference with or without it.

Just talked to Jack at the Skiclinic.com and he recommended the 13/17 Solas Dominator, I bought it and hope it works. Crap just took my prop out and it was a 14.5 / 18 solas straight cut (old race ski). My thought is this is a good thing that happened to me in th FS world but man props aren't cheap today. I'll post my 13/17 comments but please feel free to chime in and correct my judgement. If any one needs a dinged up race prop to send to Impros let me know.

First of all it was hard to install, The hardest part was getting the drive shaft off the prop. I never would have been able to get this off without the proper tools and a vise. I recommend using a wrench with a pipe on the end of it for leverage. Once I got it appart putting it back together was a piece of cake. I used antiseize on the threads incase I have to do this again.

The prop definitly has betterlow end but is missing a little midrange. I found out my ski had a worx pumpstuffer on it and people recommend getting rid of that ASAP. Instead of buying a new intake I used a dremmel to cut off the pump stuffer and will just use the scoop intake grate. I hope this works, I hear it will make a big difference. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a Solas J right now and have a 12/17 Skat-trak swirl race finished and balanced cutback 3mm on the way... i think i'll swap to the 12/17 and see how it is.

You used the vice, yamaha driveshaft tool, and a wrench with a pipe right

Yes a Vice, Yamaha Driveshaft tool, The impeller tool that came with the impeller and big wrench. I used a hammer on the wrench and that didnt help so we found a pipe. Oh I sprayed WD-40 in there and let it sit a while, that seemed to help break it loose.
