I’ve done a search already…didn’t help…so:

Obviously mine are busted (from all my countless 30’ triple backflips:theyareontome:) and I need more (no idea how many). OEM and Monkey something were suggested. Where do I get these please? Which ones are better (is there really a difference)? Any reason why I should really spend the cash on new vs used (other than new always seems better)? Thanks for any help.

get 4 new oem from John Highfield at Greater Yamaha,West Palm Beach...why go through all the work to change them w/ used ones that may break soon....

X2- Yeah Suzie If I were you I'd stick with OEM, they're the best quality and Greater Yamaha or DGY.com have best prices you'll find for OEM, maybe even cheaper than aftermarket. BTW what makes you think your mounts are broken? Was it the triple BF or the triple BR?

Didn't I see an episode of "Punk'd" where some guy with a big nose pulled a prank on somebody and informed them that they had broken motormounts?

Oh, OEM or Monkey grips. They both work good.

OEM contact Greater Yamaha (18005yamaha) ask for John Highfield, tell him Harrison sent you. He will take care of you.

new oem all the way

you've never given me poor advice (cept nonski related at Wavedaze)! :Banane36:

It might have been the combination of both honestly…I wish you had never taught me the triples...that just broke my bank account, but I applied for a cashier position at Walmart yesterday, so hopefully I get it! :dunno:

:salook:I WISH you’d seen it!!! If the "Punkmeister" happened to have accidentally broken them…IT WAS WORTH EVERY DARN PENNY!!! :shhh:We can’t talk about it online though, or a lurker on this site might feel scorned….AHHHHH HA HA HA!!! :sgrin::sgrin::sgrin: (I may make a slideshow though! :sasmokin:)

One's broken and another is weak, yet four new OEM's should arrive today!!! :brap: (thanks again)

shoulda went with the monkey grips, suzi your hardcore!
breakin keepers in half and everything dayyum!
thats hott

:smlove2:

“They’re here”, but should the coating look like this :frown: (best my camera will do)??? Only one is pretty, and the other three aren't (stuffs pealing off already)! If it's standard, I'm good with it then. :dunno: The people were very nice, friendly and quick for sure!!!

If anyone else is doing triples, they are 6R7-44517-00-8S (M080709B), so maybe they changed the numbers (I called and confirmed after arrival).

Besure to apply defuser to them before you bolt them in.

:smlove2:

i am sure she isn't doing the work, but you better remind whoever is.... I would hate to be riding that ski w/o defuser

and I SUPPOSE I needed a new manicure after my carb rebuild, simply due to sitting around and watching. :highhorse: (I did help.)

thanks AGAIN to evb... I really appreciate all the help.

Pulled my first motor, so I’m officially a motoprude-motochick now! :woot:

I’m exhausted, for I’m guessing it was the longest…world breaking…moto mount replacement job known to man (or woman), since the beginning of moto history…the reason:

“IN the beginning”, I insisted on having the tools in MY hands, constantly asking “what is this thing…what does it do…how does it do that…oh, ok, that makes sense”, while managing not to break one single fingernail (and they’re real and super long right now…so that was a feat in itself/made the process super slow…def need a new manicure though)!!! The biggest feat was keeping the tools out of his hands, because he simply couldn’t stand not doing it himself…he lives to tinker with motostuff!!! Unfortunately, I know I won’t remember the entire lesson, but it’s a start!!! I learned not to do it on only four hours sleep though, and to have all tools/supplies on hand before starting (this was a spontaneous moto pull for sure…it just happened)!!! We started at 3:30pm and finished as 10:30pm, lol.

DC the battery, dc the choke cable, dc the throttle cable (learn how to remove zippies w/o breaking them, since I had no spares…we had limited tools, and had to stop to go get more at that point, for mine were discovered to be off-site with my other skis). I wasn’t strong enough to get the moto mounts off, and it made me SOoooo VERY MAD  that I had to ask for his help…that part actually ended up being team work, like many of the other things to follow!! My Supervisor ended up having to break/chisel (whatever) something (I don’t know what) off of one of the old mounts for it being seized, while I was telling him he was doing it all wrong, lol :)sneaky:this was a tactic to distract him, so he wouldn’t start throwing things, for he’s known to be a bit temperamental when working on motos…he NOW has the patience of Job though…without a doubt).

Next, I decided my hull needed cleaning inside, for I couldn’t stand putting everything back in there without a meticulous scrubdown, plus the bilge needed to be re-ran properly (my hood was always hard to get on after it was installed), and the bilge hose was too short to manage a “quick” fix. We headed off to home depot for cleaning supplies and hose around 7:30 and returned at 8:30.

Long story “short”, we got the motor back in, and I let him reconnect all since we were tired by that point, but we were still having a total blast in my garage (he sounds like he’s with a ho-ho, for real…I mean like the ski is the ho-ho when working…it was too funny, and rather embarrassing…I had to tell him to shut-up…of course that just made him worse:noevil:)! I learned what you guys meant by ensuring the mounts were properly aligned. This is where my question comes in…we did this with a small screwdriver tip:argue:!!!! First time was almost perfect, but not pristine perfect, so we did it again. All seems to be well, and it feels smooth and cool to the touch. I even stood in the tray to see if I could tell any difference. Possibly so/maybe not…it’s hard to tell out of the water, and maybe new mounts feel slightly different than the seriously old original 97 mounts. I really can’t notice any difference for sure. I hear (at that point :argue:) there is a proper measuring tool. Should I locate one of those and measure before an actual water test? Does everyone use this tool that is supposedly rather expensive for a one time job? I know I would feel better if it was measured properly, but maybe that is just me. What should I do please? Do every single last one of you use this high-priced measuring tool? I would simply think that is something which must be 100% precise without fail, even though it already looks/feels/seems correct!!!

All my hoses are now ran nicely, and it looks much better inside, so I’m VERY happy there (plus it started)! I now know my intake from my outtake, and how it all flows, but I wouldn’t wish to be quizzed for sure, for I know I won’t get an “A+”…might get a “D” or “C” hopefully! I did well enough to be told I could help with my Supervisor’s next pull though!!! I also am the proud new owner of mega multi-colored zippy ties! :purr:

I want to do it all again next month, but hopefully you guys don’t tell me I need to do it all again right now! If so, at least I won’t have to pull the motor completely out of the hull! That part was a beast…I bet it weighs more than I do!

Haha SuziQ that was a fun read.

I wouldn't worry about high priced alignment tools. As long as you guys were careful and precise about lining things up, you should be fine. I personally use a cheap set of feeler gauges (which is what you were probably doing with the screwdriver tip) and my fingers. I haven't had any trouble with couplers with this method.

You can check your alignment somewhat by riding the ski for a while and then shutting down and feeling for heat in the coupler. If it is really hot, something is out of alignment.

Interesting read, Suzi. Glad to see your getting down and dirty! You are officially hired to come up here and reassemble mine! (If I don't ride soon, I might die.)

best to check it without the rubber dampner, you can just about eyeball it.

Supr thinks exactly as you do Sir; meanwhile, I’m prob a bit ocd when it comes to things I believe are important (prob is, idk what is imp and what isn’t here). I couldn’t remember that was called a coupler, so thanks (so many pieces parts)… it’s really cool to start learning more. Now maybe more things I read on here might start to make more sense with time (and patience from others). Like an idiot, I put my finger on the center grooved part once while it was spinning, but luckily it didn’t jam my finger...my Supr about freaked though!

Ha! I was thinking about having my motor put back together before you would while I was out there wrenching! Funny thing was…Supr became hungry…I threw some burgers in the oven (I wasn’t sure if burgers went in the oven or a frying pan, so I took a guess and set it to broil :bananajump:). While wrenching, I smelled them, and asked him to go flip them.

Tickled me pink to be wrenching while he was in the kitchen! :silly:

Karma got me back today for that lil bit of devious joy, for I tried it again and burnt my finger on the oven racks (and my first aide kit is with my tools:toothache:)!

You know I’d help you if I were there Sir!!!! I'm really sorry you aren't riding yet! Surely your boyz up there are willing to share until, but I understand why you are pumped to get yours out to test!

THAT means a complete motor pull again!!! He told me he thought my coupler seemed to have slight wear, but not severe enough to change. I said no, let’s change it now while all is out if you think it could be going… :argue:ensued! He suggested waiting…I suggested calling Jetmaniac to see if he had one…he told me “no used couplers” (now that last part sounded logical, but I have forgotten the details since I have already forgotten it’s detailed function…other than it turns things).

What will happen if it goes bad…like could it produce a freight train of problems to fix as my bendix would have??? I tried to feel what he was talking about when it was apart, but I couldn’t determine a thing, so I guess it was indeed pretty slight. What precisely would you do right now if you were me (not you)? Would you pull the motor again if me? :puppy_dog_eyes: Granted I could update every little thing in my ski, but I’m truly not interested in doing that. I honestly believe I will sell it and get an FX1 before year end (maybe).
