Yeah that makes sense, but you have to remember why the foam got wet.

I think most guys when defoaming reseal joints holes etc.
Also i makes it possible for a oneway install, extra lines, etc.

So I think for what we do to our skis it makes sense to cut them up......

re-enforcing the gunrails

Ok so I started to re-enforce this week. I started with the gunrails and what a[EVIL]pain in my nuts[/EVIL]. I used 2 12oz biaxel on each side. Trying to get good absorption was interesting. I recommend using a roller, it seamed to make it easyer to work with. Pic 1 are the pieced I pre-cut. pic 2 is the left side done. pic 3 is first sheet and pic 4 is the second on the left. I will be starting the nose next.

well not exactly. find the leak and fix it. patch all seams anyway, thats much easier than refoamng and all that BS.

Id drill a couple holes in the bottom of the hull anyway, becuase just letting water leak out the footholds isnt low enough in the hull to get all of the water out. it wont be hard to patch a couple 3/16 or 1/4 inch holes.

Today I re-enforced the nose and the bulkhead. I did 2 layers od 12oz on the handpole mount with one of the wraping the top and bottom deck. I used 404 for the seam on all. In hindsight I sould have used foam on the nose. I not to happy with the nose or the bulkhead so I will re look at both once it drys.

Just a thought, but.... My family has a boat called a carolina skiff, its basically a giant fiberglass tub on water. The floors on these boats are filled with the same foam jet skis are, not sure of the foams density though. Either way, these boats are very popular up here, and over the years, I have heard of or have seen many who have wet foam, much like a jet ski gets. 99% of the people fix this by tipping the boat up and drilling a few small holes in the back and letting it drain. It DOES drain the water and the foam is then good to use again.

Has anyone really tried this with a ski yet, instead of just cutting it up and refoaming? I dont see why it could not work, and its seems much much easier to drill, drain, and patch some holes.

Just my .02

I plan to do this vary thing this winter, drill some holes tip it up and let it drain and see if the foam drys, it will be weighed before and after. It will be in a 60 degree bldg. all winter (hopefully drying out). I really dont want to cut out perfect foot holds and nice turf if I can avoid the time and expense. I have too many other projects going.

Is there a reason to reinforce the bulkhead in that area? I have not seen one brake here? Just curious?

Pretty sure the foam that comes from the facotry absorbs water so it is still saturated if the hull is drained. The us composites two part foam doesn't absorb water. So if you refoamed the boat already before, i guess the drilling holes idea would work.

Re-enforced the sides this weekend and will be mounting the footholds. I am going to run a small strip around the hood lip to strengthen that some more.

I am going to run a small strip around the hood lip to strengthen that some more.

I would recommend turning the ski upside down, and filling in the hood lip area completely. This not only strengthens it, it allows a nice smooth transition to run the glass/carbon up to the edge of the seal area.

Looking good though.....
