Hey Guys
Well I have been lurking round here and a few other pwc forums for about 2 years and thought it was about time to start a build thread of my own, First here's a little backround
I have always been interested in motorsports and have ridin motorbikes since I was about 12 and have had a fair few all being 2 stoke from my first yz80 to my current KTM SX250 I never raced but loved doing jumps with mates and freeriding out in the hills,I have been riding fmx for about 2 years now and these days I just ride ramps and the odd mototrack but this year it just got to hot to ride in the summer and thought it was time to give stand up jetski's ago a good way to keep cool and still freeride.
So not having heeps of cash I started looking for a cheep stand up in december 2010 and not having seen many in bunbury over the years I thought I would have to wait a while or travel a bit to find one but about 3 weeks later a 92 Kawasaki 550sx poped up on gumtree with a trailer for $1800 and it was only 10k's away! So we went around and had a look and picked it up on the 24th of january and headed strait down the beach
Well that was fun for about a month then it got hard to start then it just didnt want to start at all, took the carby apart and found this
So I orderd a 44sbn, a manifold and a f/a from a guy in the u.s., and while waiting for parts to come I was browsing the net and found Friday's Jetski's in Port Kennedy! So the next day I was up there at 10am and started raiding his workshop for 550 parts including an AC Racing ali pole! Then in the corner of his workshop I spotted a superjet with footholds and turf that was in getting a new ada head and that was it! I new I needed a superjet! So I decided that I would fix the 550 and ride it until I found a superjet then sell it to fund mods!
About 2 weeks later a superjet came up for sale on here and I was enquiring about it but found it was in brisbane and another member on here ( Brotang) msg'd me saying he had a sj for sale and was in W.A.! So I went up to perth and had a look, It had some parts removed and needed to be reassebled but was complete so I picked up that with a trailer and headed strait for Friday's Jetski's, I left it there to be reassembled, tuned and a few parts added.
So the first time I would take it home it would have the following:
1999 Yamaha Superjet ( limited edition) -anyone know whats limited about it?
-stock 701
-Factory B Pipe
-Prok F/A's and adapters -Installed by Friday
-Solas Impeller ( not sure of pitch)
-2in shortend pole
-Odi Ruffian grips
-Worx intake grate
-Blowsion pole spring
-Primer kit -Installed by friday
About a week later I got a call from Friday! It was ready! so went and picked it up and headed down the beach the next day!
This was it when i got it!
Had some fun getting used to the new ski so much more power then a 550! but noticed it was very laggy down low, like it was too rich, when I would give it full gass from idle it would just blubber until you feather the throttle a bit to get the revs up but was very clean up top, So sent it back to the shop to see if anything was wrong and about a week later I got a call saying they couldent find anything wrong with it but tighend up the plug leads and leaned out the bottom a little to suit my riding style, he also noted that I didnt have a cover over the coupler so that might be throwing some water up into the rear F/A.
So had the ski out that weekend and it was alot better but not totaly fixed Im going to find a coupler cover and see it that helps a bit! Anyhow the next outing saw me snap my handle bars at the clamp so that gave me an excuse to start ordering some mods! After riding my 550sx with pjs quicksteer plate I knew I wanted a much shorter steering throw.
After doing some reasearch and asking some questions Zack Bright suggested I try the cold fusion fat bar quicksteer turn plate so I grabbed that for $140 from ajsp
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod48.htm
and I also pick up these to go with it! RRP fat bars
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod469.htm
and this umi pole limiting rope!
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod184.htm
and the rrp quicksteer for the pump side of the steering cable
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod230.htm
Got those bits in and had to drill and tap a hole in the std sj steering stop and fit 2 16mm bolts 1 on each side with a nut to lock them in place as a new steering stop, also had to trim and re-upholster the chin pad! Well I havent tried any other turn plates but im stoked with this cold fusion one I can see why zach runs them!
Sexy!
