Super Jet 99 Superjet, work in progress.... and a backround story

Hey Guys
Well I have been lurking round here and a few other pwc forums for about 2 years and thought it was about time to start a build thread of my own, First here's a little backround
I have always been interested in motorsports and have ridin motorbikes since I was about 12 and have had a fair few all being 2 stoke from my first yz80 to my current KTM SX250 I never raced but loved doing jumps with mates and freeriding out in the hills,I have been riding fmx for about 2 years now and these days I just ride ramps and the odd mototrack but this year it just got to hot to ride in the summer and thought it was time to give stand up jetski's ago a good way to keep cool and still freeride.
So not having heeps of cash I started looking for a cheep stand up in december 2010 and not having seen many in bunbury over the years I thought I would have to wait a while or travel a bit to find one but about 3 weeks later a 92 Kawasaki 550sx poped up on gumtree with a trailer for $1800 and it was only 10k's away! So we went around and had a look and picked it up on the 24th of january and headed strait down the beach

Well that was fun for about a month then it got hard to start then it just didnt want to start at all, took the carby apart and found this

IMG_0707l.jpg

So I orderd a 44sbn, a manifold and a f/a from a guy in the u.s., and while waiting for parts to come I was browsing the net and found Friday's Jetski's in Port Kennedy! So the next day I was up there at 10am and started raiding his workshop for 550 parts including an AC Racing ali pole! Then in the corner of his workshop I spotted a superjet with footholds and turf that was in getting a new ada head and that was it! I new I needed a superjet! So I decided that I would fix the 550 and ride it until I found a superjet then sell it to fund mods!

About 2 weeks later a superjet came up for sale on here and I was enquiring about it but found it was in brisbane and another member on here ( Brotang) msg'd me saying he had a sj for sale and was in W.A.! So I went up to perth and had a look, It had some parts removed and needed to be reassebled but was complete so I picked up that with a trailer and headed strait for Friday's Jetski's, I left it there to be reassembled, tuned and a few parts added.

So the first time I would take it home it would have the following:
1999 Yamaha Superjet ( limited edition) -anyone know whats limited about it?
-stock 701
-Factory B Pipe
-Prok F/A's and adapters -Installed by Friday
-Solas Impeller ( not sure of pitch)
-2in shortend pole
-Odi Ruffian grips
-Worx intake grate
-Blowsion pole spring
-Primer kit -Installed by friday

About a week later I got a call from Friday! It was ready! so went and picked it up and headed down the beach the next day!
This was it when i got it!

Had some fun getting used to the new ski so much more power then a 550! but noticed it was very laggy down low, like it was too rich, when I would give it full gass from idle it would just blubber until you feather the throttle a bit to get the revs up but was very clean up top, So sent it back to the shop to see if anything was wrong and about a week later I got a call saying they couldent find anything wrong with it but tighend up the plug leads and leaned out the bottom a little to suit my riding style, he also noted that I didnt have a cover over the coupler so that might be throwing some water up into the rear F/A.
So had the ski out that weekend and it was alot better but not totaly fixed Im going to find a coupler cover and see it that helps a bit! Anyhow the next outing saw me snap my handle bars at the clamp so that gave me an excuse to start ordering some mods! After riding my 550sx with pjs quicksteer plate I knew I wanted a much shorter steering throw.
After doing some reasearch and asking some questions Zack Bright suggested I try the cold fusion fat bar quicksteer turn plate so I grabbed that for $140 from ajsp
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod48.htm

and I also pick up these to go with it! RRP fat bars
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod469.htm

and this umi pole limiting rope!
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod184.htm

and the rrp quicksteer for the pump side of the steering cable
http://www.australian-jetski.com.au/prod230.htm

Got those bits in and had to drill and tap a hole in the std sj steering stop and fit 2 16mm bolts 1 on each side with a nut to lock them in place as a new steering stop, also had to trim and re-upholster the chin pad! Well I havent tried any other turn plates but im stoked with this cold fusion one I can see why zach runs them!
Sexy!

after a few more rides and the surf getting bigger I wanted foholds so back to ajsp I went and orderd a few more goodies including:
-Wamiltons - rickter footholds
-10mm underpad
-sheet of black diamond hydro turf
-Jetworks Flow Control Valve
-2m of clear water hose

and from Kirkside products in perth I got:
2m Fiberglass twill matt
2m CarbonFiber
2part foam for foot holds
2part epoxy for glassing
gloves, mixers and measuring cups
Once all that stuff came in I got busy!
Removed the old turf and cleaned everything up

mesured out the holds and cut out the template

Screwed the holds in....

Found some stress cracks under the hoodlatch so put some scrap carbon there to beef it up a bit

I also did a layer of fiberglass to strengthen the tray but forgot to get a pic of that!

Test rode it this weekend and tried to get the fcv dialed in but dont think its quite right, the way the cooling was tee'd there was'nt enougt pressure to open it no matter what setting it was on so I swapped it to the strait part of the tee and it was too much pressure and didnt seem to shut off flow properly, I will have to try it again this weekend to be sure but i think i have to cut a coil off the spring and put it back where it was, and I want to put a restrictor before the stinger but not sure whats the best size, and the best thing to use that easy to find, I like the jetworks restrictor but cant wait that long, anyone got any ideas?

Oh and I orderd an ATP Epic off watty and it came yesterday, cant wait to get that sucker in and try it but for some reasn the ebox wont come off the bracket....I removed the 2 12mm nuts but it still tight as...wont even wobble any ideas? i dont want to undolt the bracket from the front because I turfed over the bolts and dont really want to cut a hole in the turf!

It is stuck from corrosion from the saltwater. Beat it with a hammer and pry it with a prybar but be careful not to damage the fiberglass. You may have to unbolt it from the front if it will not come loose. Good luck.

I'm betting someone called your ski "limited" because it had a b pipe. That term is from the "limited" racing class where you were allowed to have a b pipe and an aftermarket head I think.

yer I have soked it in wd40 and will give it another try in an hour, It acctuly says limited edition just under where it says superjet on the hood and theres a few othere decals that say limited edition on the pole, you can see it on the hood in the last picture

Looks good!$1800 for a 550 seems high....

You should make a mount for the pole strap instead of using your hood latch. Dont want your pole to snap, break off your hood, and sink your ski.....

yer there really isnt alot of stand ups around western australia so prices are high, and theres blowsion hood straps on there to now so the hood wont come off anytime soon.....

Well had a pretty avarage ride today, After tuning for the last two weekends I thought I had the missfire pretty sorted, Got out today and its prolly worse then ever! Oh well, After mabe 15 mins my friend came off my other 550sx and badly rolled his ankle! So I was out by myself again lol and started trying rolls, First one I got 1/3 the way round and slapped my head pretty good, Came back in had a rest and went out for another go
Started up the ski and there was no pull........ ( you'll see in the vid) just as I was thinking wtf off it went so i jumped on and went for the next try, landed just over half way round Jumped back on started it up and nothing no pull.....
Ended up breaking the crank side of the coupler into 3 pieces and im guessing some motor mounts too.... Not stoked but thems the breaks.... I guess it will give me some more time to work on this missfire......
