A/m hull questions

hey guys I just joined this site a month ago after being on pwc for years.. To make a long story short I just rebuilt my sn sj with a 61x 701 motor the parts include trued and welded crank Wisco top end , west coast high compression head , factory b pipe, lightly cleaned up exhaust ports, the ski has an a/m prop hard to tell what kind until I take it apart more.. I'm looking to swap everything into an a/m hull after talking to a local shop lol.. I understand everything is a direct swap from my 94 super jet. I'm thinking of buying a used rickter fr2 or something along those lines.. I mainly ride ponds with x stars so I guess you could say I chase boat wakes.. I'm not looking to do flat water flips maybe just 360's and stuff along those lines.. I'd like to be able to back flip off v wakes and stuff.. My question for you guys is , is an a/m hull worth it will I notice a huge difference over my hull I have now?

Thank you in advance

an am hull is worth it no doubt , you need to be sure that your going to buy a hull that fits exactly what your trying to do . also another great point is to get the whole plug and play out of your head most parts do just fall into place s to speak but if you think everything will just bolt in with no modifications or no trimming etc good luck every hull needs some little touches to be right , they also need hooks epoxied in certain areas and backflips are most likely going to call on you having a trim system . ocean waves are steep boat wakes arent as perfect . so thus trim systems make that way more achievable . read and read an read some more find whats perfect for you . but most importantly dont expect it to just go together just like a stock production hull

also to compare an am hull is like going from a sxr to a superjet . and from a superjet to an am hull its night and day man just be sure to get whats right for you . cant express that enough

Thank you sir yeah I've done a lot of research so far and a lot of people say specifically with rickter hulls that things need to be trimmed which I don't mind.. My main concern is I don't want to spend thousands of dollars trying to get everything to fit into an a/m hull and yes trim system will of course be on the list !

There alot of rider preference when deciding on a hull. I have rode many of them. Rickters aren't my favorite ride. Built very well, but how most of them handle puts them at the bottom of my list. But you could love them, all preference and what you like.

Yeah, these guys make great points. Every AM hull is a little different. And sometimes the same hull will ride different with that seems like the same drive train because of differences in ride plate or pole length.

For example: Hurricane Hulls are very loose, and will rotate and flip super easy, but that also comes at a price of stability, especially at speed compared to what you're used to.
A ski with SXR derived bottom deck (ROK, ROKr, Backie Chan) is much more stable and will carve to some degree. But they don't rotate (360's) as easily. And i'm sure there are more extreme examples in either direction.
I've had the chance to ride a variety of different Rickter hulls and they are 'middle of the road' to me. I don't hate them, I don't love them.

BTW, your taste will change. The more you ride, the more your taste evolves. Its too bad you couldn't make the Daytona Freeride. You would've been hard pressed to find hulls with 701's but you definitely would have had a lot of hulls to check out and maybe ride.

So yeah, either read read read or jump on a plane and ride what you intend to buy before you spend money and time and regret it. Plane ticket and a rental car should run you about $500. That's a small investment to make sure the $4-$7k is the right choice.

AM hulls are great but if you are not able to ride a bunch spend hours reading rider comments on different hulls. It sounds like you have a good understanding of the riding you want to do so now try to figure out what hull is going to be the best. FYI, you should be able to get everything into a rickter w/o any trimming or trouble, they are a breeze to assemble. If you get anyone's used am hull it should also be easy because all the fitting work will have already been done.
