The rhythm slide is a slide done on the face of the wave that matches the waves momentum to push the ski sideways and or backwards off throttle with the wave. For example you are going left (this can be done going right also) on the wave and want to do a rhythm slide. You dropped in and there is the broken wave or white water behind you and the open face to your left at this time you will be looking down the line and reading the wave to determine where to do your bottom turn and approach the lip and start the slide. The slide will be done by turning left and chopping the throttle with the front of the ski at the top of the wave near the lip and the back of the ski at or near the bottom of the wave or transition. If timed correctly with the wave your ski will be pushed down the line in a slide on the face.May I suggest when you first try this you start your slide just past the lip but before the weak shoulder. After you start the slide you cannot hit the throttle. If you hit the throttle the slide stops and you pearl the rear of the ski while going sideways and or backwards. That is colorful! Try and resist. If you start the slide on the flats in front of the wave you will get your ski sliding but it will not be pushed by the wave and the wave will just run you over .It is important to match the slide with the speed the wave is breaking. If you go to slow your slide will stop and you will dig the outside edge of the ski and be ejected. Two things you can do to help improve your success at mastering this manuv. 1. practice flat water slides like the one those guys on jet dreams all do at the same time. 2. turn up on to the broken white water of the wave so you are at or near parallel to shore and allow the wave to push you sideways. These 2 things will greatly help your balance. After you start the rhythm slide you are being pushed by the wave off throttle so you will need to stay balanced over the ski.Important thing to remember momentum helps balance. The rhythm slide can be added to an off the lip, floater or even re-entry.That's right a re-entry where you land tail first. It will open a lot of new doors to other tricks.Good luck and give it time.I'm a slow learner and it took me 6 months + until the light went on and I really started to do them consistent.During the last JK pismo motosurf gathering Riding the #53 Herbie ski I did alot of these. The wave must have decent shape to do this.
