Surfriding Advice on good surf motor please

So i ride 100% surf and have been getting competative over the last year so i naturally want to up my game as i plan to compete in a 3 IFWA Euro rounds in 2016.
My current set up is Rickter fr2 evo 701 ported 61x with 48 novi B pipe and 144 solas mag 14/18 skat.
I'm getting enough height on my flips for variation tricks but i lack the drive (torque) for some agressive surf riding.
So my thoughts are either going for a 148 pump or just keeping the 144 and going for more CC's.....Like a DASA 850 or similar.
The only issue i have is i need a motor that isn't to thirsty as i have a 2 mile river run to hit the surf where i ride, A thirstier motor is going to cut my ride time consideribly.

I'm sure there are people that have been in the same position that can chip in some ideas?

I got my 850 running 1.5 hours running 46's. 44's would go longer.

148 mag would be a good start. It will help massively and will be awesome on the 850.

Or maybe consider a 155? Going to be a bit tougher to slide but the 701 155 was pretty surprising.

Cheers for that mate

I vote 148 pump. The reliability and lack maintenance of a near stock 701 is unmatched.

Price wise the 148 is going to be the cheaper option and Loki customs are doing 5mm stroker motors now for low money, Can go to 800cc on the motor i have now using the same head barrels, cases and carb. I think i'm going to try that option first then if that's not enough i'll sell the motor and go for a PV motor.

@tightithrash are you competing in Europe next year?

Your 61x cases can't get enough air. I vote 44s on one of the newer HPE style 5mm stroker cranks. Go with a motor builder close to home. Good luck to you mate! A setback pump might be in good stride. Even the 144 setbacks offer a different balance point, different hookup

There's already a 5mm 61x motor been made by Loki and it's pretty good from what I've heard.
He's doing 62t case and cylinder Motors to so they should be better still. 61x makes such a good surf motor tho, that's why I use one.

20151015_171430-1.jpg I have to sell a 850SS Dasa ShortBlock that I have been running for one season and have 36h riding time on it.
This would be the optimal freeride Motor for you.I am located in germany not so far from you in England and can ship the motor.
Pm me if you are interested.

950cc 8mil dasa with 148 pump is golden for surf application
I'm not trying to kill myself ha.
Would prefer to stay stock stroke as I do quite a lot of riding and can't be doing with the extra maintenance of a stroker engine.

I used to think same that stroker engine = more maintenance, which is very wrong perception. I havn't had a single issue with mine and i ride 99% salt water. As long as your hull stays dry and engine is properly tuned, you will have 0 maintnance.
16mil might require extra maintenance but not 8mil.
Dasa 950 provides a very balanced power, reliability and fuel efficiency which makes it the perfect engine for advanced surf riders looking for that extra bottom hit and constant torque across the power band.
No 701 or stock stroke can be compared to the stroker explosiveness and instant throttle response.
Based on your original post, you deff need that 950 happiness

I think I would have the agree with that. I have not ridden a 8mm 950 Dasa but I have a ridden a 10mm 1000 in the surf. I would assume the two are very similar. The 1000 felt like a great surf engine. The way it was setup it was definitely no flat water monster but it offered a very linear power curve that was very easy to control which is needed in the surf. I loved the way the engine made the torque to pull away from a wave effortlessly even at a low rpm. An engine with the light switch effect is no fun to ride in the surf.

Another rider in our group runs 1000 10 mil, 49carbs and lasts 45min per tank. My engine (48carbs) lasts 1h10min. Both engines have plenty of manageable power for the surf and instant response bottom to top.
I run bpipe, he runs PFP.
If I knew about that setup combo 5 engines ago..
