Aftermarket Superjet hulls - how are they to live with?

I ride mostly flatwater lakes in Indiana. I like to chase boats, freesyle, mostly just hang out with friends and ride. I don't race or compete.

I've come across a WDK ROK-R (EDIT: ROK not a ROK-R) setup for a superjet driveline. I already have a full 96 superjet that runs great, I could just drop my setup into the hull and go. (Roughly)

My question is, what are these sort of hulls like for the casual consumer? I don't want to be cooked after riding for an hour or so. The scene isn't like it is in Cali or Havasu out here, so I'm not likely to get a chance to ride one before I buy.

It's also a good enough price that I doubt it would ever be worth less than what I pay.

Short hulls to not "Chase Boats" really well in my opinion. I have an Edge, can chase a boat ok, but if it is moving at a faster speed, it is harder to race up to get in front than like on a SJ. SJ hard to beat!

I like to chase boats when I see them to hit the wake, but it's a few times a year honestly. 9/10 it's just flatwter riding and setup wakes only.

I would stick with your SJ. How long have you been riding? Sounds like this is all you need. Honestly, I went through 2 SJ's, then a Carbon Freak, now an Edge. I could easily go back to a SJ. They dont done any one thing great, but it does everything good..........

I agree. I just had a chance to trade my pitbike for it, and I've not been riding it for a year and it was a nice chance to try an aftermarket hull for no monetary loss. I think I'm tempted to try it and see what I think. Like Quinc says, I can always sell it if it's not what I'm looking for.

For what it's worth, rok-r is one of the shortest hulls there is, like, weld the two ends of the RRP pole together short. I agree with just trying something, but that seems like an extreme example and a far cry from what someone would recommend as good at chasing boats.

Whats your height and weight? That is a huge factor for the rokr

@ 160 lbs and 5 10 I could comfortable chase boats on my rip with a straight nozzle. At my peak of 210lbs it was a bit more difficult.

That's true. I've been riding about a year. I got my superjet in october and trust me, I had no intention of aftermarket either, but the guy waned to straight trade my pitbike for his hull with billet pole etc, and he's local. So it's tempting.

Seller says this is the actual hull.

He rode it mostly on rivers etc. I mostly just want a playful ski that can get up and out the water easily. Love the SJ hull but especially where it's been reinforced for surf, it can be a bit heavy and long.

The Rok is a super fun freeride type hull that will shine chasing boats. I'd buy that in a heartbeat for boat chasing if the deal was right. Much better IMO over a SJ.

Most of your aftermarket hulls that are up to -6 or -7 inches shorter can work for boat chasing. I personally love my -4.3 superfreak for all around use.. not really a flatwater freestyle hull. It's too long for that but with a good power valve engine setup it would flatwater flip.. in the surf and boat chasing is where it shines. I'm 6ft 220lbs and it is the perfect size ski for me. The tigercraft v3 is very comparable in size
