I think I'm going to grind on the filter some before I switch to water suckers.... I can't stand sucking water, with the stock ones you almost never get water.

Bottom line, what do you think of the hull, I am real close to pulling the trigger, and I am a little hesitant because I have never even seen one, much less ridden one in real life. any info would be greatly helpful. If I get this ski i doubt highly i'll be "allowed" to get another one any time in the forseeable future. so this might be my forever hull.

Build & Ride review of my Superfreak Badass, XS1000 powered, Powerfactor Pipe, ATP Flame, Mag pump, Thrust, trim, etc, etc

The way Tem builds these ski's is top notch... I have seen, riden, & owned other A/M hulls, etc. His ski's are very light, well built to take punishment. This is not a oem hull that you just screw, bolt together. You take time measuring screw lengths, clearing thread inserts, custom fit some parts. But the extra time you spend building it makes it all worth it the first ride. I enjoy to build things, really like the fine details of a build so I may go to far when it comes to fit & finish.

Ride:

The hull rides great, not a nose high pure flatwater ride. I'm 190lbs plus wetsuit, so say 200lbs. My ride plate is flush, I run a 65V reduction nozzle that adds 4+ degrees of up trim & the ski still ride great. I can cruise around the lake at 30-40mph with no bad habits. Ski's not trying to spit you off, it truely rides better than a stock hull. It will turn on a dime, it will do a 360 within the length of the hull. You can race it from point to point & its just lays over & carves nice. But you can unhook it & slides when you want.. Sunday I was riding it in very windy conditions, the lake had breaking waves, lol. Ski stayed hooked up, was riding around & having fun. No spray in my face like the Rickter, was doing 180's & backflips, surfstance backflips, just having a blast. I'm not a flatwater guy, really only ride surf. I've wanted to learn flatwater, I had the motor & pump so I built this hull. The ski is just fun to ride, very stable... My wife will BF this ski this spring, thats how stable this ski is. Now I had one of the first/2nd ish Gen Superfreaks when Tem was working with Pat. It was a great ski, but very unstable & harder to ride compared to these new shorter/wider hulls.

Any one that rides one of these hulls would be very happy... I think Tem will have a demo ski with a smaller motor. These Superfreaks with XS1000cc motors will hurt you. People say yeah right, when these XS1000 motors get on the pipe its pure crazy how hard the motor pulls. My first BF on my hull I hopped it into a 180, trim/Brap plate to plate before I knew what happened. lol Rode it for 20 minutes or so, lost a trim bolt & was still Backflippin...

I think there's a lot of good hulls out there, just like there's a lot of good engine builders. This is the first hull I have ever rode that was great at Flatwater, you could cruise it like a normal ski, surf ride it..... For me to be out backflipin on FW with no boat waves, no setup wakes I'm super stoked.....

All with the same hull....

I'm really looking forward to putting more time on my Superfreak , after i get a 100 gallons on it I'll post a video... Right now I'm only backflipping & if we see another backflip video you know whats going to happen. I will say I have almost got the second backflip in a row yesterday....

Motor wise, What can I say... I have had Xscream build me a few motors... There motors are just crazy, the power is there, motor starts every time, I'm never asking for more.... Well until the XS1200 comes out...

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear! I will just be using on of Jetmaniacs 710 motors, my next step after this hull purchase will be an xscream pv motor, not sure how quickly because this will be taking a big chunk of my fun money. It really seems like it will be money well spent though.

I melted mine down with a heat gun where they rubbed the hood. I agree, these are worth the effort to not ingest water in to your HIGH $ Motor.
It may not be pretty, but function over form in this situation.

PS, Boat looks INCREDIBLE, Nice work, and as Slutty would say "CLEAN INSTAL"!

Airboxes are close, the rear one is hitting my hood. May have to switch back to Proks (Which suck imo, unless ur ski runs on water lol) ,

I guess I have to ask, the reviews have been incredible on these hulls and I love the looks of the hull as well as how insane light they are. My big question is the layup. HOW STRONG ARE THEY AT THIS WEIGHT? HOW DO YOU GET THEM SO LIGHT AND RETAIN STRENGTH?
I have a carbon ROK that was (unassembled) meaning top deck seperate from bottom and no plumbing or foam or inserts yet and the hull alone was 40# and 50# with hood (NO HARDWARE). This hull will end up at 65# with the hood. So I think that is close to what you have hear in the BADAZZ.
I will be honest, I AM SCARED of the strength in this hull. If feels rigid and strong but I am not familiar with the layup, I know what it is but never owned anything like this.

Do these have a core of any kind? Anything other than just carbon? Whats the average thickness? I know these bagged and epoxy resin, are they the same layup as his previous hulls that were cored?

I have seen everything on here but that info so figured I would ask. I am VERY impressed with the weight and looks and the ride feedback of this thing and cannot wait to see one in person and hopefully demo one as well.

Had the ROK ordered before this thing was done so kinda feeling like I missed the boat a little LOL.
I like the ROK but its not been tested with this new layup (im kind the test rat) so we will know soon.

Fwiw, I ordered mine in extra heavy surf layup, knowing fully well that I will beat the piss out of this hull for many years. I can't afford for it to break, and I am pretty hard on my stuff.
Hull weight will be about 59 lbs.

That is still incredibly light assuming that is assembled and foamed. I dont question Tems' ability to make a super strong light hull. I just have always questioned the strength of ANY super light hull LOL. Just stuck in my brain that light is thin and thin is weak I guess.
I grew a set of nuts and ordered one anyway (Carbon ROK). I have it and can feel how rigid it is and all but it drills and cuts different than anything I have ever messed with so the fear continues LOL.

I am going to beat the living crap out of it and hope all my fears are disolved over the first few months.

I am REALLY CURIOUS as to the differences in the layups between the ROK and the BADAZZ.

That weight its for the hull only, no hardware. But it is assembled.
Tem doesn't use foam in these. There are three isolated, individually drainable air chambers instead.
Hood should be another 7-8 lbs, pole is 6.5 lbs I believe. Both of those are also "heavy" layup for me.

I agreed with all, but your weight.

lol

I got the scale out, you ready to step on?

LOL

I took my 2nd Gen Superfreak, hull was 55lbs with core... I beat the piss out of this Flatwater hull in the surf... I'm talking Hurricaine Bill Surf 10+ ft waves, these hulls are very strong. I think your safe on FW, lol

Tem did get away from the core... Core is great until the Carbon delaminates & then its down hill...

I think a few of us plan to ride some flatwater before the Daytona weekend, maybe a Friday lake day...

Wow josh! That is a great review, very thoughtful. I wanted to push the thanks button on your post, but I am already at my 1 thanks/day limit...

Sorry I didn't get to ride your ski yesterday. That was some nasty weather for us floridians!!

I did get to ride lucas ski with a very similiar setup. I was a little scared to ride it both with the new power level and fresh rebuild on the crank and my W.F.O. all the time issues.

These skis are silly!!! Superfreaky light and easy handling combined with nasty, angry XS1000 power on tap are all RPMs. Superfreaks with this level of power will F@CK you up in a hurry if you don't respect the beast! Just ask 'the spot' surf riders Lone Octane soon to be 'Spotfreak' (Corey) and Idok(Scott). Lone Octane split his chin wide open and Idok launched himself on his @ss and the ski into low orbit without a rider.

Layup schedules and the like are probably somewhat closely guarded information by top builders who spent their lives perfecting their composite craftmanship.

I think that the issues you raise are interesting to explore. I can't speak for Berky (Tem of Superfreak), but I can speak from the experience of riding the first superfreak for almost a year now. Tem had only made flatwater hulls before he made mine to used as a surf/flatwater prototype hybrid. I have ridden it hard in the surf and flatwater as my 'daily driver' and only ski for almost a year now. I have backsplatted it and sandbar augered it MANY times. It has needed some repairs, but it has held up incredibly to lots of punishment. I can't wait to get my new freak built for daytona, but I wish I didn't have to sell mine to help afford the new one. It is my favorite ski ever.

Nice build and report.
How do you like the footholds? Enclosures? Easy to transition to surf stance (move around in the tray)?

so no core and average 55# hull with no foam. TEM is the man if he is making these hulls hold up to new flippers at that weight.
I am stoked to hear that. While mine isnt his layup, it gives me hope that it is possible that it will hold up to my abuse.

Thanks for the feedback. I dont suppose anyone would offer up the average thickness of these would they? Mine seems to be only about .160 on everage. Thicker in some areas mainly bottom and thinner in others.

Maniac, was yours a core hull or non core?

The Footholds are very big when you get the hull, My Buddy Lucas did the turf job for me. There's a few layers of 25 & 8 mil pad cut wide to hang out of the foothold. It makes them look twice as big, but its all pad. The flap you see hanging over was done after the turf to make a flap to keep you locked in. Once you kick in your locked, but theres no more pressure on your feet. That flap pushes in & helps to keep that foot locked in. Not a problem to switch to surf stance.... I really like the footholds, after owning a Rickter its hard to find a better foothold.

Maniac, was yours a core hull or non core?

His has core... Only the new Badass was built core less...

Our FBO has been hit as well ...... my brother lost about 15, 000 thousand dollars of gear plus FLIGHT LOG !! .
Sure makes you look different at people.... Its been a giant pain in the A$$, the insurance company wants to install used stuff. This plane only has 300 hrs TT so I'm not install used stuff...
