Super Jet Am I Retarded?

i got one of those pump cones from freestyle650.great looking piece.blue one with the lines.when i installed it,i spun the stater section and it seemed to spin a little tighter.it doesnt do that with the old plastic cone.i added grease. i took off the new cone.stater spins free and keeps spinning a couple of turns when you let go.i install the new cone and stater spins a little tighter.only spins about a half turn when you let it go.is this normal?if not WTF?i can put the old cone on and stater spins looser than with the new cone.with new cone it just feels like a bran new tight bearing.i just dont want anything to be in a bind when i put it all together.i really dont think im retarded but i havent had an IQ test in a while.

EDIT: i got the pump out to change the impeller.thats how im spinning the stater section.

The stator is bolted to the hull and should not doing at all. Just saying.

i got the pump out cause im changing the impeller.sorry i forgot to mention that.i hold the shaft with one hand(please no jokes) and spin the stater section.

ah wth go ahead with the shaft jokes!

I'm totally confused what you're talking about. You're bolting up a pump cone with the 3 little bolts and when turning the bolts, you're turning the pump? Am I reading right?

Measure how far the cone protrudes into the bearing cavity. It's possible it's longer and is contacting both the inner and outer bearing faces. The OEM cone is bored out so it won't hit the inner bearing face where most of the stubby cones are almost solid.

Also, do you have the seals installed in your bearings by chance because that would eat up some of your clearance as well.

sorry.i got the pump out of the boat.i got the wear ring off.i changed the impeller.i inspected my bearings. i decided to get a freestyle pump cone.i installed the cone and when i hold the shaft with one hand i spin the stater section just to "feel" the bearings.it seems to spin a little tighter with the new cone installed.i think it might be the new grease i covered the bearing with.its not that tight.it just doesnt spin "as loose" with the new cone installed.i dont hear anything.i dont think the cone is touching the bearing.the old stock cone doesnt.it just spins differently with and without the cone on it.(when i spin it with my hand)

i was thinking it might be making contact with the bearing.now that i think about it,i bet it is because when i just barely snug the 3 bolts down,i mean not even enough to flatten the lock washer,it spins freely.then when i snug em down, thats when it gets a little tight.now as far as bearing seals, there isnt one on the back side cause i can see the bearings, but on the impeller side, when i took the old impeller off, there was a seal that just fell out.i reinstalled it because i dont know any better.but it didnt seem to sit flat(probably why it fell out).i will unscrew my impeller and take a pic.sorry its so cunfusing.but i bet there where the problem is.just wasnt doing it before with the old cone.

do i need this piece? it just fell out after i unscrewed the impeller?it doesnt seem to serve a purpose.doesnt fit very well in the hub either.the first pic is as flush as it will go.IMAG0329.jpgIMAG0331.jpgIMAG0335.jpg

Hey, if you want to hear retarded my wifes friend accidentally killed her cat in the dryer a few days ago.

that spacer works good to press new seals in.

you may or may not need it depending on how close your impeller blades are to your stator.

thanks.thats what i needed to know.i got the bearing thing figured out btw.it was just this really heavy duty grease i was using.its got a 625degree flash point.got if from a friend that works at Royal Oil.really thick cause its cold out.and it just made the bearings a little tighter.but still spins easy and silently.

i figured it out.thanks.no suzi just hijacked this thread.then moderators moderated.

Get your facts straight; I did NOT hijack this thread, just like I did not hijack the "Speed and Style" Thread.
98 and Moto hijacked this one, and Wilkey hijacked the other one. Hope you got ski running though.
