Onesojourner asked this a while back and they kinda moved the Southern fried Freeride to the Lake of the Ozarks. http://www.x-h2o.com/forumdisplay.php?f=96
actually it started out asking about the GA Ride, then it turned to Ozarks, so I made them a section........ completely separate...

Lanier started with several of us saying, "Hey, who wants to get together". They just grew from there.......

I do not see Paul and Kathy, Ronny, Myself organizing a ride this year (I just do not have time). Lanier is out, Alatoona is out. MCDog, can you look into Macon??? Not sure how the Govt there is, I know Mike Young gave up trying to have races there, one of the greatest locations but too much politics.

Wedo, look into Lake Martin, that could be a possibility.

Political scene has changed here. They are pumping money into promoting the lake and talking about building a ampitheather and convention center. The county owns the lake and they want to start making some money off of it. I will be happy to call around and check it out. I'll be happy to help organize it any way I can. What questions should I ask the county guys?

i was talking to a buddy about alatoona yesterday and he said that there are some parts that are still pretty decent to ride. he was tellin me about a place that had super long ramps and was still open. There is still a sandy beach there too. He said the pool is only 2feet below what they normally pull it down to for winter too. I wanna say he was talking about Galts Ferry but i'm not sure.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, but I'd rather not have one of the large freerides in my backyard. The locals will not be cool with the noise and drinking that goes on. The campground that was arranged last year was a dry area and everyone knows that the rules would have been broken. It would effectively be a one year deal w/little chance of a repeat ride. Daytona is a party town and is ideally situated for rides. I'm sure there is another body of water somewhere that would be similar. Lanier has gotten where the locals get hassled by the water patrol every time they ride and we've been asked not to have a ride there again. I can see the same thing happening at Lake Martin. There are very few standups there now and the police never bother us when we ride. I'd like to keep it that way.

That is understandable.............

I prefer the smaller Lanier rides we use to do.......... Also, the only hassle was loading and unloading the ski's and deciding where to go eat!!!!!!!!!!!

I did forget that alcohol is prohibited anywhere on the lake by the county. Since I live on the water I can do any drinking at home or on my dock, so I tend to forget about the rule. I'm sure people would get rowdy and busted by the county patrol here too. Other than that, a freeride would be great here.

lake guntersville would be a good place or by gils house on smith lake. not gonna find any cleaner water than that providing they get any. interstate 65 passes right through there.

I'm not sure where at Guntersville - there's not very much useable shoreline....

How about Lake Sinclair? They have a nice campground on a penninsula, with a restaurant on the water right next to it. The lake is always warm and full, due to a factory using it to cool.... It can't get to low or else the factory couldnt get its water. And its very easy to get to. Just get off I-20 and stay straight. No turns required.

But the forcasted rainfall will not be enough to bring it up to standard summertime levels.
I have seen Alatoona when we were in a drought filled over the pcknic tables. Two years there was three weeks when only two ramps where open because the rest were under water (made for some fun riding opportunities). The thing about Ga lakes is you can never tell how high the water will be untill the spring when they start filling them again. They seam to fill them all the way in spring then the drought starts showing signs in mid summer.

Anyway I always enjoyed having the ride in my back yard but it would be cool to see a ride develop elsewhere. Besides just like the good old days alot of people still show up to ride at Lanier and alatoona on any given weekend.
