Do you guys who run these ever have problems with the police because
you can't see your license plate anymore?

Just curious.

I've driven from NJ to Niagara and back with one and also to Georgia and back with one and never had a problem. You get funny looks from other drivers and stuff but thats about all. The one I used I borrowed from Paul at LPW, but I have a friend that is possibly making one for me. They are great for trips and much better than towing a trailer.

I made one similar but for a dirtbike. It utilized a C-track for the tires with outriggers for tie downs. It worked well. I think this little project would give me a good excuse to buy a welder. My last one I made at work after hours. Unfortunately I can't do that at my new job.

I hauled my ski from ky to ontario last year and just relocated the plate with a $2.00 plate mount from pep boys. no problems at the boarder or anything. These haulers work great. don't have the balls to mount the boat on it from the hauler back though. kind of heavy. how much tongue weight do you have on you'res speedfreak???

I assume you're talking about MIG then? TIG is a whole new world. TIG is def. a lot harder. It's not as easy as some make it look:smile:

Doug

It would be cheaper to pay a welder to tig up a rack then to purchase a tig machine also. I have tiged a few things and didn't think it was that hard. The best part about a tig maching is that you can make a weld 1/8 inch wide. Other than that I think the mig has it all speed, ease, and cost.

mine again.... right around $100 for materials & labor. If I did it again I would of added tabs for tie downs like the alum one above, but it works.

I pulled my boat back on the trailer and it only had about 75 to 100 pounds tongue weight. I know that people always keep talking about 10% of trailer weight on the tongue but I have never had a problem with it being around 3%. The double trailer with the couches on it only had 20 to 50 pounds tongue weight. If you are worried about tongue weight make your insert out of 2X2 solid and have a 2.5X2.5X1/4 welded over it then you can use a class 4 reciever on the back end with an equalizer hitch so that the tongue weight is off of the ball.

My uncle had a slide in camper with a 6 foot overhang off of the rear bumper. His extention was 8 foot long with an equalizer hitch. He pulled a 22 foot lowe deep v boat with a 200 horse 4 stroke on the back that he hauled all over the country after he retired.

The cheap Harbor freight one worked for me for over a year with no problems. I just used good tie downs on the front and back of the ski. Yeah it wobbled a little but not bad, now it is on the front of my single trailer so I can haul the blaster also or use it for gas cans.

Actually it is not the strongest metal but it lasted a year with out bending. I used 2 2x6 as the runners which added strength to the frame and then ratcheting tie down straps for the front and rear of the ski. Around town it was great but first time I went from Hillsboro OR. To Long beach Washington I was nevus but after a 5 hour round trip and no issues it didn’t bother me any more.
If I hadn’t bought a trailer and had access to a welder I would make one like one of the ones above. But if you want something to get you by until you can find or make a better one it works.

I made mine for 50 bucks...It weighs about 75 lbs and can handle more than the hitch is rated for.

These pics were before the trip to destin for spring break. TOYS :Banane01:

Thats right, my jetski trailer is a bike trailer too!

I was planning to convert my single trailer into a double but I think I may have to think about going this route. If I configure it so that I can open the hatch of my 4runner I'd definitely be in. Something to think about.
