Custom/Hybrid Anyone cut up a Rickter?

I have a fiberglass Rickter FS1 with a big bore 701 (763), b pipe, etc.. I absolutely love everything about the hull and the entire package is a lot of fun BUT, I would really like to be able to flat water backflip. The only short hull I've really been comfortable on is the XFS (probably because I own a Rickter). Unfortunately the XFS (and XFR) seem to be holding their value and I just can't justify the 5k, 6k and I really don't want to go the bigger motor route either. Has anyone shortened a FS1, FS2, FR2? How different is the XFS from the FS1?

Do it!! It's really not much different than shortening an SJ. Plus you have adjustable footholds to reposition for your needs afterwards.

I have to agree, an xfr with a 1050 dasa, B pipe, does not flatwater flip with ease. I would still shorten it, if it were mine though, it will make flipping behind a boat a lot easier.

Is this hull for sale
OOPS! How did this end up here? I guess now I have to sell it!

no matter how much you hack off, its still going to weigh too much to flat water flip with the drive train you are currently running.
I have a few different weights but I think FS1= 90 lbs; XFS= 83 lbs. Doesn't seem like a huge difference, but more power definitely would help or maybe be necessary.

I know he's one of the world's best, but I guess I'm still hooked on watching Rok bf a stock 701.

I was hoping someone else had already hacked and experimented for me.

An XFS is more like 100 easy with the hood, XFR is 118. If my old memory is good. Still I really like my XFR handling, but a XFR in XFS layup IMO.

The difference isn't only in the weight and length of the 2. They are both dramatically different hulls. The xfs also has rear rocker so just hacking off a few inches sill won't do anything in what little gain's you'll feel vs how much work you'll do. Not trying to discourage you by any means but i'd seriously think about it. If it was me i'd sell the FS1 and get a used xfr.

The first person to say anything smart. Both an fs-1 xfr and xfs have a lot more differences than just length and weight. Hack up that hull of yours and its worth its nothing, your best bet is to cut your losses sell it and upgrade. Or maybe toss some money into your running gear, like a skat pump or total loss.....a lot for options than firing up the grinder imo

This why I posted this before doing anything drastic. From pics and vids it's hard to tell exactly what is different from FS1 to XFS. I was assuming it was just length and a little rocker. I based this on how easy it was for me to transition from my FS1 to the XFS I borrowed. As far as more motor, I may go that route, but then I'm looking at about 5k (short block+carbs/man+pump-selling what I have) vs 6k for XFS- selling my hull for 3,500 maybe. Even with the XFS I would min upgrade to mag pump. Thanks to everyone for chiming in. I've got a few weeks of riding then I'll have to decide.

Sell your hull for 3k and buy a Rokr or Backie chan for 4k. Personally I wouldn't buy a xfs. They are expensive and seem harder to flip and spin than most other hulls that are cheaper. Fit and finish or a rickter is nice, well so is a Rokr and Backie

I have to agree, if your goal is to flip, there are some great skis out there that are proficient in that regard for 3-5k new, and there are used examples available right now for less. Examples that have FW flipped with a 61x.

I love Rickters, and honestly i've been looking for a 2nd gen FS1 ever since I rode one for the first time. Its a great all around free ride hull, but chopped it might not flip, and as mentioned, you'd hurt the value.
